The Broncos have found something and these past 2 weeks they are playing more like the 10-6 team we thought they were.

They are a TERRIBLE matchup for Kansas City, who is essentially the 2007 Saints (great offense with fewer options than you realize) and once you figure out how to take out a couple of their weapons you realize that they have HUGE vulnerabilities that can be exploited.

Indy showed us one gameplan in outslugging them.
Houston showed us another gameplan in out talenting them.

Denver can follow Indy's gameplan to a T - short passes, tons of runs, and just wear down KC's bad defense.

Give me John Elway's rebounding squadron straight up.

Kansas City 20
Denver 23

Barnwell on Mahomes ankle in his ESPN column today:

I went through the Jaguars, Colts and Texans games and charted Mahomes' performance before and after he injured his ankle. The numbers can't really be much clearer. In those three games, he has gone from before the ankle flare-up playing like the greatest quarterback who ever lived to looking more like, well, Andy Dalton.

17 Broncos
13 Chiefs

I agree completely. Chiefs are stuck in the mud until Kermit’s gimpy ankle heals

Denver hasn’t allowed a single offensive touchdown in 2 weeks, but they still have Joe Flacco at QB. They need the defense to play out of their mind and the offense to control the ball. They also need some DBs to get healthy.

Mahomes and Reek are getting a TD against the horsies.

How this game looms though depends on Fat Reid running the ball 15+ times.

Their Run D is horrible. Pass if they load the box but other than that just run the football, they can't stop it. Houston averaged over 5.5 a carry and I think Indy averaged over 5 as well. Play good D, run the ball down their throat, & control the clock is the receipe to beat the Chiefs.

I don't think that's a hot take, really. It's incredibly realistic. The Chiefs are about as banged up with injuries as you can get, and it's a short week's rest. We've also seen 3 weeks in a row of teams dominating the Chiefs with the same strategy. The coaching staff only has 2+ days to get it together.

Denver's defensive front will absolutely feast on our patchwork O-line. Mahomes will have little to no time in the pocket, and he's playing on a bum ankle already. Running the ball is not an option.

On the flip-side, our wet paper bag of a defense will be even more gassed than usual playing at high altitude, and they have 0 ability to stop the run and/or get off the field.

As a Chiefs fan, I almost expect Denver to win this game.

This game should come down to turnovers. I expect Flacco to throw more ints (1-2) than Mahomes (0).

KC wins a close one

Flacco hasn’t been that bad but he throws a few passes every game that I’m just like “WTF were you looking at???” Our offense moves the ball decently between the 20s for the most part. We just have shite for big plays. Not saying he’s been good either, just serviceable I guess.

Some pros on the season so far is Sutton’s emergence as a true #1 WR. He would look reallll good with a top 15 QB throwing him the ball. AJ Johnson might be the LB we’ve been looking for since Brandon Marshall lost his powers to injuries. Demarcus Walker might not be a bust after all too. Oh, Kareem Jackson is really good. I remember some people on this board mocking that signing.

Not sure it’s that much of a hot take, honestly. Chiefs still have a lot of injuries, including Mahomes, going into a short week.

Most Chiefs fans (including me) agree with this "Hot Take." I'd at the very least put this game as a pick'em rather than Chiefs -3.5 which the line's been sitting at since it opened.

Several reasons:

Short week for the Chiefs coming off 2 home losses when they were manhandled in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Chiefs still banged up without 2 outta 5 starting OL (entire left side of OL out), and best DL Chris Jones still out with groin issue.

Pat still hobbled by ankle enough that it effects his ability to improvise / make his normal outside of the pocket plays.

Chiefs can't run the ball for shite this season. Damian Williams is averaging less than 2 yards/carry. McCoy has showed flashes but Reid needs to give the ball more to Darrel Williams. He's the best all around RB on the roster right now.

And on the flip side the Chiefs' run D / tackling is about as bad as I've ever seen it (and that's saying something given the defenses we've seen over the past several seasons). I have a tough time seeing how we're going to slow down Philip Lindsay.

Looks like both are inactive again tonight.

You said the broncos figured something out but I’m not sure what. They only had 1 drive over 50 yards last week that was exactly 50 and two weeks ago didn’t do anything outside the first two scripted drives. I’m not sure the broncos have enough offensive power to compete with KC. The prob avg 2 tds against avg d. Maybe give them 21-24 tonight but that seems like a stretch.

Chiefs 34
Broncos 20

The line is KC -3 so it's not that hot of a take.

The injury report is terrible for the Chiefs. Two starting offensive linemen, one starting wide receiver, and their, by far, best defensive lineman are all out while Denver has practically everyone healthy. That said this is the type of backed into a corner, must win game that teams as good as Kansas City is supposed to be find a way to win. Team has too much talent and too many weapons to lose three in a row.
