Bet against Southern Miss for the rest of the year. We looked like complete shite against South Alabama. Next up, La Tech, doubt we even keep it close.

Funny. There’s a HS mascot here in South Texas called the Cotton Pickers. It was trending bigly the other day. The town is 93% Hispanic, maybe 1% black. The residents love the name. It references the founding of the town on the basis of the cotton industry. Townspeople love that their heritage is represented through a unique name.
Unfortunately, the twitter world is angry now because the term “Cotton Pickers” is racist. Why can’t libs/blacks realize that not everything revolves around them?

Please let me know. Trying to keep up with these rules as the goal posts are continuously moving. If a guy that coached 4 years at an HBCU where he completely turned the program around and won back to back conference titles before his current gig where he led them to 3 bowl berths is a dyed-in-the-wool racist it’s kinda concerning for a lot of people across all industries.

Hopson was floundering. The team has been non-competitive in four straight games, and three of them have been on national TV.
Hop beat Kentucky in his first game at USM, on the back of a guy named Shannon Dawson who was still getting paid by Kentucky. It's been all downhill from there. Dawson's gone now, along with a lot of good players recruited by Hopson's predecessor.
A lot of good players recruited by Hopson have left, too. I don't think that's because Hop's a bad person. I just think he's not all that good at the game of football, and you pick up on that after a while. He also erred on the side of playing upperclassmen over playing talent, and it didn't work.
Hopson was making an extremely low salary (less than half of what Fedora made in 2011) and the word seems to be that USM will spend significantly more this time around.
I barely even remember Kevin Perkins, but he has absolutely nothing to do with Hopson or what's going on at USM now.

He most certainly was not fired for cause. Hopson never did anything wrong or contrary to the rules. He just isn't a very good head football coach.
I suspect this was ultimately Hop's own decision. USM wasn't going to just buy him out after one game. He knew he wasn't cutting it and he was good enough to step aside.

He only made $500k a year ?!? Good Lord Mike Brown must be an awful fricking agent. Monken had a $700k/year bass. I guess Hopson got a $15k bonus for beating UK but for a D1 head coaching contract signed in 2015 that is awful.

I know he's from vicksburg, his dad was a Doctor there and just died. I know he went to Ole Miss. I do not remember him being from Delhi though

His dad or his grandfather grew up in Delhi, LA... whichever one was a physician. Not sure about Jay, though.

Jay is from Vicksburg. He graduated from Warren Central in 1988, then went to Ole Miss. Jay is a good dude. I wish him well.

He didn't get along with the school President. The President blocked him from hiring Art Briles and then a few months later denied admission to a recruit who was accused of a couple of rapes.

Yes he is. He and i worked out during the off season a few times in the late 90s whe. He was home. Good guy.
