re: Has there ever been a trick play as consequential as Liverpool's corner kick

Kind of like a hidden ball trick in baseball?
More like a quick pitch when the batter isn’t established in the box. A bitch play.

Aggregate scoring sounds like the dumbest thing ever.

Different cultures/traditions.
It’s tradition in baseball for the batter to grab his nuts 3x, spit, tap plate, step out of box then repeat. Then the pitcher does his deal, then the pitch is thrown.
There’s nothing like that in soccer.

Sports is about competing, not acting. This was clearly scripted. He didn’t just “realize the defenders were sleeping”.
Let’s be honest here.
Go ahead and be honest. Are you suggesting the match was thrown because it was such a cockup that grown men couldn't possibly be that stupid?

People that think that don’t really understand soccer or the flow of the game (which is fine). Play is continuous and never really stops even when the ball is out of bounds. Quick restarts are to be expected whether it’s a throw in or a corner. It’s not considered “cheap” because it’s actually expected. Defenders especially know this which is why it’s so mind boggling that Barcelona could be so stupid with such high stakes.

Wrong about “acting” vs competing. I think it’s all part of the game.
But you were downvoted but it’s 100% accurate. That play was rehearsed over and over.
Barca should have never been caught, but that play was rehearsed. It just so happened to be on so they could execute it. Had the man at the corner of the six been defended they wouldn’t have put the ball in play.

It’s the defending teams job to not let them put it in that quickly and easily much less to a guy wide open on the 6. So whether or not it was rehearsed, it falls on Barca 100%.

but nobody watches college baseball unless they're still a college student and into rah-rah and have nothing better to do and go see it in person.

but Boise State vs. Oklahoma statue of liberty play reshaped how mid-majors were viewed in major college football.
And was also a rather meaningless game.
Terrible answer.

Hold on....college baseball is a thing? Like schools actually have baseball teams?

Philly Special and it’s not even close. The Super Bowl is the most important sporting event in modern times, and that play was instrumental in getting a city/team its first ever win - over the dynasty of the last decade+.

Soccer Baws sure are downvoting a ton in this thread.

Maybe in the US.

Let’s say we are watching a NLCS or ALCS game 7, and the game is tied in the 8th inning. Base runner on third and he recognizes the pitcher and infield are not paying attention, then decides to steal home, without any instructions from 3rd base coach, and earn a run. His team plays good defense in the 9th and now they’re moving on to the World Series.
Not sure if this has ever happened, but that’s the only type of play/situation that I can closely relate this to.

That is maybe the stupidest thing ive heard of in championship sports. But hey, its soccer

Gee
There are many rounds of the pro club euro championship.
There are games between pro clubs all over Europe.
If you move all early round games to a neutral country few could afford to attend.
If you play home and home you sell tickets and radio/tv time twice.
Which is better?
Why do you think having just one game is necessarily better?
How about just one game to decide NBA rounds?
Edit to defeat/correct creative phone.

People who keep complaining about aggregate scoring must hate golf too.

There are 100 competitors in a golf tourney ALL PLAYING AT ONCE. Of course there would ve too many ties in a 2 day event. So they play with a cut, and then 2 more days.
Soccer has TWO teams...just 2
Just let the teamnwith the best record in the reg season win a tiebreaker, ir whatever. Aggregate? Again, its soccer
