I love comparing all time great QBs. Below is my list of active QBs that are Hall Fame bound:

Hall of Fame Lock:
*Tom Brady
*Drew Brees
*Aaron Rodgers
*Ben Roethlisberger

On the cusp of the Hall of Fame:
*Philip Rivers
*Matt Ryan
*Russell Wilson

Not in yet. Work still left to do:
*Cam Newton
*Eli Manning

Recent star QBS that fell short:
*Donovan McNabb
*Tony Romo

All time great that deserves to get in:
*Ken Anderson

Thoughts?

I would put Eli in the "On the cusp of HOF" list and put Ryan and Wilson as "Not in yet. Work still left to do." The rest of the list looks about right.

Eli is either in or not at this point, right?

No need for further data to make a determination.

Agree

*Matt Ryan
*Russell Wilson
Wilson is the only one on the cusp

*Cam Newton
*Eli Manning
Newton unlikely. Eli is in based on Super bowls

*Tony Romo
Neither deserve to be in

I think Eli gets in because he won two super bowls with a well respected franchise among the NFL

I don't love Eli but the guy has two improbable Super Bowl wins. The most memorable super bowl play ever as well. He'll get into the Hall of Fame.

Eli can only hurt his chances at this point. He’s well past his prime. His career record is now only a couple of games above .500

Another 5-11 season, and Eli is going to have a losing record as a starting QB. That’s not going to help.

I don't think 2 SBs are enough for Eli. Remember, Jim Plunkett won 2 SBs for the Raiders and he never came close to the Hall.

Well Eli’s first SB was the biggest SB upset ever by beating what was supposed to be the greatest NFL team of all time. Plus he’s a Manning. That can only help not hurt.

I personally don’t think he should be in (never had a season where he was a clear cut top 5 QB) but he’ll be in.

Russell Wilson is a better QB than Cam Newton.

In only one season (2011) did Eli finish in the Top 10 in Passer Rating. Never an All-Pro (1st or 2nd Team). His 4 Pro Bowls are fewer than McNabb (6 total) and equal to Russell Wilson, Tony Romo, Rich Gannon, Boomer Esiason, Jeff Garcia, Michael Vick, Drew Bledsoe. None of these but Wilson have a chance.

But his 2 SB MVPs are pretty unique.

Still think he needs a miracle season to cinch it.

I understand it was a different era but on stats alone Joe Namath was bad as well.
He has a losing record all time

Rivers and Manning were traded for each other, their numbers are almost identical 118/116 wins, 54656/55981 yards, 374/360 TDs.
Yet you have the QB with two Super Bowl MVPs below the other?

The only thing Cam does better than Ryan and Wilson is run the ball. And Wilson is certainly no slouch at running. Besides, QBs make the Hall on their arms, not their legs.

Personally, I think we put too much value on SBs when evaluating QBs. I mean, I love Terry Bradshaw, but he is not in the Top 20 all time QBs.

Rivers - 8 Pro Bowls
Eli = 4 Pro Bowls

Rivers - 96 career passer rating
Eli = 84 career passer rating

Rivers - 7 seasons Top 10 Passer Rating
Eli = 1 season Top 10 Passer Rating

Rivers was also 1 x Comeback Player of the Year and 2 x PFF All Pro.

I don't love him at all either, but he did twice what Joe Willie Namath did.
