Bonds was better than Mays.

Mays is a top 4 or 5 alltime great. Might be the greatist 5 tool player the game has ever seen. If he didnt have to miss military time and play a big part of his career in the Polo grounds he would have owned every power hitting record.

Its way in the favor of Mays and if you think it isnt then you know nothing about the game.

Willie owned the outfield, had a rocket for an arm, was one of the games best baserunners and a pure base stealer, hit for average, tremendous power. He played in huge ball parks.

He wasnt allowed to jack up on steroids and hang over the plate wearing body armour.

All round baseball player, its Mays and its not close.

i think mays/bonds is more of a toss up than either of you are willing to admit. everything said about mays, can be said about bonds. judging 2 players from 2 different eras is very difficult to do. i say its a wash at best.

this is the classic argument used by people who know they can't make a rational argument and just lash out at someone who has a different view, that you know is correct, well done

What I do know is Mays had more hits, Bonds leads in every other major statistical category, including the most telling ones: OBP, SLG and OPS.

Mays was a better fielder, but Bonds is under rated in that dept. Eveything else you said applies to Bonds and did before 1999. Mays was good at getting OB, Bonds was better.

quote:

He played in huge ball parks.

The Polo grounds was huge in center, down the lines, (279 and 258) it makes Minute Maid Park look like a cavern. Bonds came up in the NL when it had several pitchers parks, like the Astrodome.

He wasnt allowed to jack up on steroids and hang over the plate wearing body armour.

ah, back when guys were men and we know that NO ONE ever "cheated" in the "good old days" right?

quote:

All round baseball player, its Mays and its not close.

its very close, I think its Bonds and I don't care about so called PED's.

i think they are both top 5, I give the edge to Bonds. My first comment was just kind of a dig at Owlvis.
