First meeting 1899. Have always been in the same league with one another.
Have only played 53 times, and just 21 times before 1992. They did not play a single time between 1938-67.
What is it with the SEC Just Meaning More and always ducking each orher?

You’d be surprised the petty shite that athletic administrators fight and hold grudges over.

This. Back in the day it wasn't uncommon to only play 5 or 6 conference games.
Georgia Tech had grudges with everyone it seemed. A lot of it had to do with ego and wanting everyone to come play them in Atlanta only. They had one of the biggest stadiums around at the time and it was this big city versus rural mentality where they thought they were too good to go to these other places. Tech refused to go to Clemson. I think they also refused to go to Mississippi to play those schools so they rarely played at all. Tech left the SEC over some petty bullshite and is why I don't revere Bobby Dodd like the older fans do. He screwed the athletics programs over with that mistake.

GT refused to play Ole Miss because Ole Miss loved segregation and all-white teams.

The all-time SEC travesty was Bama refusing to play at Auburn.
That went on for decades.

Nick Saban destroyed Tennessee football.

It was because travel was almost impossible in a timely manner to these places because the roads and infrastructure were such shite in these states in the 1930's well into the 1940's.
It wasn't just GT that refused to go there either several other teams as well. Yes, there was a bit of urban vs rural arrogance thrown in there as well but it was mainly about the travel.

Bobby Dodd never coached a black player. Had nothing to do with it.

It's hard for younger fans to fathom but when the Conference split in 1992 there were a lot of weird matchups of teams that didn't play each other often - Florida v. TN, AU v. LSU, etc...
Now we just assume those have always been annual rival games but back in 1991 everybody was like "huh?"

LSU used to play Kentucky, Ole Miss, MSU, and Bama every year.
They would rotate the other six teams.

LSU started playing Florida every year in 1971.
As for the Georgia-Tennessee deal, The Athletic did a story last year on the history of SEC scheduling. Georgia’s Wally Butts and Tennessee’s Gen. Robert Neyland “weren’t enemies, but they weren’t close friends, either.” Neyland like playing Bama and then rounding out the schedule with weaker teams. Supposedly, the Athens to Knoxville trip through the mountains was brutal.
According to the article, when the league finally mandated a scheduling rotation, they still left it up to the teams to set the dates. Georgia and Tennessee’s ADs weren’t on speaking terms, and each complained to Vandy’s AD, Roy Kramer, who later became SEC commissioner, about the other. Kramer had been named to the SEC “scheduling committee” and later found out he was the committee. He was forced to broker the dates between Georgia and Tennessee, which is why the played each other in the 1980 opener.
Another story out of that was Bama and Ole Miss from 1944 to 1965 without playing each other because Bear Bryant and Johnny Vaught got along great. They figured why beat up on each other when there are other teams to beat. Of course, that doesn’t explain the first two-thirds of that period because Bryant didn’t get to Alabama to coach until the late-50s.
It’s a good article, but it’s behind a paywall. Details other scheduling gaps and how some nonconference games were counted as conference games.
Chaotic history of SEC scheduling

The stories over the years paint it as Bobby Dodd got mad at Bear Bryant around scholarship restrictions and an injury in an Bama-Tech game, to name a couple, and pulled Georgia Tech out of the SEC. By the mid-70s, Dodd and Bryant patched things up, and Bryant was willing to sponsor Tech’s reinstatement. But Dodd knew there were a few schools that didn’t want Tech back.

Curious which SEC teams does UGA have losing records against?

Bryant and Dodd played Ole Miss and Vaught in Bowl games. Btw Bryant and Dodd were the only Coaches Vaught didn’t have a winning record against. People forget that Vaught won a shite ton of football games including 5 Sugar Bowls. Only coach with more Sugar Bowl wins is Bryant.

From 1956 forward Auburn played Tennessee, Miss St, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama every year until 1992.
First expansion, Tennessee game gone.
A little later, Florida game gone.
I miss the old days. Auburn is the closest conference school to Florida. I think we’ve played them more than we’ve played Alabama.

I mean he did a number on Tennessee for sure. But nick saban had a pretty incredible record against all sec teams. Tennessee just kept making bad hires after fulmer. It's not like they're incapable of being back to a competitive team which is what most teams could ever hope for forever. Sabans just the best to ever do it.

You must have only ever watched the last few years and extrapolated recent results backwards into history…
frick, that sentence hurt my head… Lowering the dose of these gummies now.
But it’s obvious, you’re trolling. Get down witcha bad self.
