Don’t forget if the first team scores a td they must go for 1. Then if the second team scores a td they must go for two. College OT is the perfect format to have that rule yet they don’t

Yup. Once they put it in, people will realize how much sense it would make. What is the point of playing multiple OTs if you can determine the winner in one OT?

college OT system

What annoys be about this is they did it largely because of the LSU/A&M 7 OT game. One that wouldn’t have even gone to OT with competent officiating.

Should never happen in football. Players put their health and well being on the line, giving it everything they have for hours....only to end in a frickin tie. Pound sand

The original college OT was king.

Of course they had to destroy that because we got a highly entertaining game out of it.

I’m old so I remember numerous college games ending in ties. Every now and then an NFL game ends in a tie but it’s not a common occurrence. At least the NFL has a fair OT. The college OT is just stupid.

Don't even need to put the offensive and defensive players on the field.

Kicking unit. Start at 45y and move back 5y until someone misses or it's blocked. OT over in 15min and puts a premium on kickers.

Disagree.

Sometimes, both teams deserve to win.

Sometimes, both teams deserve to lose.

There are stalemates in wars, there can be stalemates in sports.

I didn't watch the game, but trying to remember the scenario for how a team can go ahead in the NFL in OT but still the other team has a chance with the ball last. By then, it's because each team had already had their initial OT possession that did not result in an outright win?

Original rule = 15 minute extra period, first team to score any points wins (sudden death)

Changed rule = 15 minute extra period, if first team scores a TD then game is over, if they make a field goal, opposing team has a chance to score a TD to win (they can't kick a FG)

Changed rule - 10 minute extra period instead of 15, both teams will get a possession even if the first scores a TD and the second team can kick a FG to tie and extend the play.

I believe this was the first time we had a situation where a team deliberately went for a tie. It wasn't possible under the old rules.

I am 100% okay with games ending in ties, but they should be marked and counted as a loss for both teams. You earn the right to win, last night neither team did. Give them an L.

But what about the money bet on the game? Could any bets be winners?
Or did the companies and people holding the bets come out much richer with no payout?

I’m a purest, so I think sports betting should be outlawed, but certainly do not think that the NFL should be dictating rules with betting in mind.

The NFL will say it’s a “safety issue” but they’ll allow more games to be played and short week games for TV ratings. The NFL can piss off.

just make the rule when the game goes to OT and you score a TD, you have to go for two. that would help
