I haven’t followed it that closely but if they were considering a move that would permanently pit the NBA playoffs against football/MLB postseason they were fricking insane and stupid. They currently have the late spring/early summer window all to themselves for their postseason, why would you ever consider abandoning that

Not to mention the attention the NBA offseason gets mid summer with very little else going on. And you’re going to shift that to the fall with football going on? The business sense of those involved should be seriously questioned if this was considered

I think the hope, amongst fans, was start on or around Christmas and end in mid August right as football season starts

There really is no legitimate movement inside the league for that to happen though and silver has said as much, for a multitude of reasons. Like you said, they dominate discussion in July and I doubt they want to give that up

Have you been in a coma for the last seven months and not been aware that there is a pandemic going on? There was no way the NBA could have had a postseason this year without it cutting into the NFL season.

Watching games without fans present makes it less entertaining and exciting. If you aren't a true fan, you would not watch NBA, NHL or MLB games with no fans for very long.

Did you read any of what I responded to?

Do you know what the definition of permanent is?

I do believe the protests of people from both sides have definitely made a difference in viewership, but also another thing is simply the effects of being in an ongoing pandemic. Alot of people just don't take the bubble seriously.
I've talked to numerous people who've said they aren't watching because the games look fake, less fun without fans, looks like they're watching their local LA fitness or YMCA, etc.

The NBA combining the whole BLM stuff along with being in a bubble with no fans present, I think that has basically eliminated everyone except the true die-hard NBA fans.

You're right. Millennials and zoomers just don't watch traditional television anymore. Here in the south friends will get together to watch college football, but these same viewers that a decade ago were considered 'crossover/casual' viewers for other sports just don't exist anymore. The casual viewer doesn't tune in to watch the NBA finals because their tv wasn't turned on in the first place. (Or if it was turned on it was playing The Office via Netflix on loop in the background for the millionth time).

And a 30 point game 1 blow out with injuries coming to multiple key heat players won't help either

Game 3 is gonna get crushed up against football on Sunday. They're starting it at 6:30 to wedge it in between games but it's still gonna get crushed.

Finals aside, the bubble playoffs have been fantastic overall to watch though.

No one cares about Black Lives Matter Basketball. Once Luka was eliminated by the racist Clippers and the Bucks went out, the playoffs were over.

Realize it is 1/2 of last year's number when ABC didn't even have the broadcast rights in one of the cities playing in the Finals.

Your speculation is still completely off because there wasn't a single person wanting the NBA postseason to last until the fall. There were some people who want the NBA postseason to end later in the summer because nothing is on in July and early August except regular season baseball. But I've never heard anybody say that the NBA Finals should be held in September and compete head to head with the NFL.

Now, those averages will rise significantly when final Nielsen data becomes available, but they are currently about half of what last year’s comparable preliminary data estimated for ABC.

What was last years preliminary data? And I’m glad they acknowledged it outright and compared it to preliminary data and not final data

This is largely related to football IMO
