well yeah, one game featured two large market teams playing each other, the other featured BFE Louisiana against BFE Mississippi

No my point is that a College football game with several other games going on at the same time nearly outdrew an nba finals game

is that surprising? honestly curious

also the nba just needs to be in the top 3 in their target demo for it to be successful.

they consistently win that demo on weekdays via tnt/espn. as it stands now, theyre going to get paid very well

A little bit, I get the draw being the first big weekend back

It also kinda bucks the argument that people are consuming sports via other means that many in this thread are saying.

Stanley Cup on NBCSN was a terrible decision.

They need to rework a contract and get in with either ESPN or FOX.

The game tipped off after 9pm on a work and school night. I love basketball but I’m not staying up until midnight to watch that game. If if tips off earlier I would be able to.

it also just doesn't feel like event television at all...they got a dud match up, with the atmosphere of a summer league game, and competing against football. A 50% drop might be a win all things considered.

Are you really comparing Tampa / Dallas to
LA / Miami?

The clinching game went head-to-head with the Chiefs/Ravens, which was not ideal, of course.

This can’t be an underestimated facet.

I think NBA and NHL playing outside of their normal time frame is a big part of it. People just aren't conditioned to caring about these sports once football starts.

That may be true to a degree, but with Lebron and AD being featured, the numbers are a MAJOR embarrassment. There is no doubt in my mind the BLM / SJW influence is a factor. I can only speak for myself, but I would normally watch the NBA / NFL but haven’t this year and it is solely due to the BLM / SJW factor.

I’m a huge NBA fan and even I missed game 1. Most people think the Lakers will win and maybe sweep, so if Miami can show they are able to hang with them, more people will tune in.

Nah. Even if it were, you are talking maybe 1 or 2 percent drop, and even then it’s hard to say this had anything to do with it when people were predicting lower ratings before the BLM protests even started.

Speaks to how people just don’t care for Lebron James.

The Last Dance documentary averaged as many viewers as game 1 of the nba finals.

MJ will always be the goat. End of story.

You’re talking out your arse.
No one was predicting that before.
More people are sitting at home than ever, which golf has proved having higher viewership for just about every tournament they played over last years same tourney.

It 100% has to do with the stance the nba and it’s players has taken and the shite the networks talk about pregame, and during the game, that has absofrickinglutely nothing to do with basketball.
You don’t gain viewers by being more woke. You can only lose them. A person that hasnt watched basketball isn’t going to start watching b/c of BLM shite. But your seeing the opposite happen in large numbers.
