At the time, Burrow was a backup at Ohio State. It's not like he was comparing the monster year at LSU to Martinez.
Tom Brady was the 199th pick in the draft.

There was buzz that Scott was very reluctant to come back to Lincoln. He was very happy at UCF, loved his players there. The full court press to return home, including a phone call with Osborne when Scott was wavering sealed the deal.
He had the complete hero returns home reception. Honestly, I think a lot of people would get full of themselves pretty quickly with the reception he received.
Scott said his goal was to blend Oregon speed with Husker Power. His time rising up in the coaching ranks and especially the influence under Chip Kelly had a profound impression on Scott’s preferred style of play. There was definitely an emphasis on speedy “Duck Ball” but not so much a notable return of tough, smashmouth mentality that many Husker fans were hoping and assuming Scott would emphasize.
There was no emphasis on ball control, no emphasis on defense, no emphasis on special teams. That style of play may work fine in the PAC or AAC with speedy skill athletes but it’s not going to serve you well long term in a smashmouth conference like the B1G or SEC.
At the end of the day, I think Scott gave it his best shot but Scott had either forgotten or thought he had a better way than the fundamentals that served Nebraska best for 40+ years.
I think Scott has a good scheme and a good offensive mind and I think if he can work quietly under a strong HC and maybe do some self reflecting, he can get another shot someday. It’ll be best for him if he gets that shot in a conference and at a school where his wide open, point a minute, preferred style of play would be suitable and welcomed.
As for Nebraska, hopefully we will find someone who emphasizes the small things: Play smart, play tough, control the lines, control the clock. I would welcome a return to “boring football” because I think that brand best suits Nebraska in the part of the country we are and in the conference we play.
It’s been ironic these past several years to watch other schools beat us over the head using the same fundamental things that used to be our bread and butter.

Frost is/was a hometown hero that went home to his alma mater, and the buyout shows him that respect. Unfortunately, he wasn't the program builder that Big Red needed. He went into a bad situation and somehow made it worse with questionable hiring decisions and coaching decisions. Frost, at least right now, needs an established program to run to be successful. But, those are few and far between at the P5 level, where the only schools looking for HC's are down schools looking for a reset. He needs to go back into a G5 spot, or take on an assistant spot at an established P5 and learn.
As for Nebraska football? They need someone that knows how to build something from nothing, or at least someone who knows how to win with what he has. A young, up and comer type of HC is the last thing they need.

#1 at ucf he took over a program that was winless the year before, but had a history of winning and George O'leary built that program
#2 SF only had 1 good year. He had no clue how to build a program and was extremely evident with his fricking arrogance
#3 SF has not clue on S&C and consistently ran the players in the ground and had ridiculous conditioning test like Moffits old 16 110's. This is very evident when he brags about multiple lineman throwing up each practice
#4 he did not pay attention to details in recruiting. Very evident but now its been released through their insiders that he consistently missed recruiting calls and many times had nobody there to even answer the call and never rescheduled
#5 he is arrogant as frick!!! Prolly the most arrogant coach in football. Evident with his comments about how he was bringing his coaches from UCF with him, the Joe Borrow Comments and just his overall general attitude
#6 even after he was forced to make changes after last year, he still micromanaged. Recipe for a disaster.

As far as NIL goes they were ranked #2 or 3 in NIL last year so you’re totally off on that one as well.
Frost chose to bring all his buddies along with him when he was hired rather than going out and hiring top-tier coordinators. Last year Trev game him the chance to make changes and get rid of any staff members who weren’t cutting it. He chose to keep Chinander (DC) and that led to his downfall. Nebraska has talent, especially on offense. 2 excellent RBs, some very good WRs, and a solid QB. Defense is terrible and offensive line is soft. They haven’t recruited OL/DL well. Frost’s top priority for OL was that he wanted “tall” guys. For what reason, I have no clue. That’s why now their OL has guys that are 6’7”, 6’8”, and 6’10”. Big but soft. They were getting pushed around by the FCS North Dakota d-line. Urban Meyer will be in Lincoln this weekend and has hinted that he might be interested in the job, but it’s doubtful that Trev will talk to him because he doesn’t “match the morals and standards of this great state.” Sad. Instead they’ll end up with the “safe” hire like Campbell or Klieman or Leipold and win 7-8 games a year.

I knew he wasn't a winner when he spent his first few years blaming Mike Riley for all his failures.
I get Mike Riley was an odd choice and a poor fit but some of the best players in Frost's tenure were Riley recruits and Riley always seemed to be able to out coach some of the best in big games against far more talented teams.

Frost is a poor man's Curley Hallman. They were both in over their heads. Hallman had 2 things going for him. Hhe was from the Bear Bryant coaching tree and Brett Favre. Frost had 2 things going for him. McKenzie Milton and being a former Nebraska QB.

Any successor to a successful tenure is rife with that sort of thing. It happened at Alabama after Bryant retired in 1982. Just a bunch of Bear’s boys on the coaching staff or in the AD until Mike Dubose was fired in 2000. And it wasn’t completely cleaned up until Saban was hired in 2007.

First red flag should have been that him and his entire staff left UCF for weeks to recruit and the team didn’t miss a beat in the Peach bowl.

Nebraska is that tale of how we make allowances for some, due to built-in bias, and absolutely refuse to tolerate it from someone else.
Also explains why minorities are still struggling mightily to get those head coaching interviews.
