Words can't describe how happy I am with this Caps team. They finally have teeth. Absolutely huge past 4 games. Even in that loss to the Kings, they outhit them. Trotz is exactly what this team needed. I expect this Caps team to finally turn the corner of choking in the playoffs.

The Sharks have entered tonic immobility since they opened the scoring. The Preds look like they'll keep their winning streak going before the road trip. 5-1 at 2nd intermission.

Preds are on another level than anyone else in the league right now, it's ridiculous.

No composure from the Pens. I get it, take a couple shots at the Caps, but move on. Clearly can't keep their heads.

Good win for the Caps. They have the Islanders coming up on Saturday and then the Pens again the following Wednesday. Great opportunity to make some moves in the Metro.

Going to the game Saturday, can't wait. Went to the game against Anaheim a couple of weeks back with Ronnie Mex. Caps-Isles should be a shootout.

I wouldn't say no composure, this isn't the playoffs, a call like that doesn't get made and ruins a game you do what you gotta do. Worst case the grades for those officials will be piss poor and they won't get playoff action.

A million times this. The Pens were allowed to run Holtby with impunity all night without ever getting called for it. Then the refs, just to rub it in, call a real borderline goalie interference on Brouwer. How do the Caps react? By killing the penalty and keep plugging along.

Ovi slashes Letang (and it should have been called). Hog is completely wrong, as per the norm, that it was a major or anything. Ovi was playing the puck, but he missed and hit the back of the guy's boot. Letang crashed into the boards because he lost his edge when trying to get back momentum, it was other foot that betrayed him. But, unless you're Crosby in their last game, intent doesn't really matter. If you slash, you slash. It should've been a penalty, regardless of intent. But I see no intent he was trying to injure Letang. And Letang missed one shift for concussion protocols.

So, how do the Pens react? OK, two guys go out and cross check Ovi on the next faceoff. Refs don't call it. Cool. We all move on. Well, unless you're the Pens. Then they headbutt Eric Fehr, punch Jack Hillen in the face with a gloved hand, hit Joel Ward headfirst into the boards, and generally just act like douchebags all period.

Hey, if you want to keep sending out your 4th line to try and hit the other team instead of trying to, I don't know, win the game, that's your choice. It's not a good one, but you can do it. Eventually, the Pens' penalty parade caught up to them, and the Caps put it away. The Pens forgot this was a hockey game and spent the whole 3rd period trying to get some absurd frontier justice.

They got their fresh cross checks in, which I'm fine with. But after that, you're only hurting yourselves. What a stupid team. Way to essentially let the Caps win. I'll take the two points.

BTW, how much money would the NHL pay for the Caps-Pens to be the first round series? What glorious bad blood. These teams legitimately despise one another.

We need more hatred in sports. This was awesome theater.

Totally playing the puck and just hit his foot. WOW Baloo, new low even for you. Talk about being completely WRONG.

That is one of the most vicious, blatant, intentional slashes the NHL has seen in some time. To completely wind up your slash like swinging a baseball bat and then deliver takes a real piece of shite player, congrats. Take your playing the puck bullshite elsewhere, not even remotely.

Yes, look where the puck is. RIGHT BY HIS FOOT. Ovi missed and hit the foot. that's a slash. It should've been a penalty. But the call for a major is unfounded.

The refs screwed up. That's a textbook slash. But then the Pens spent the entire period committing as many penalties as they could. So many, in fact, the refs let a lot of stuff slide and couldn't call them all.

He was playing the puck.

Letang would have been fine if he doesn't lose an edge on his left skate, which the slash did not cause.

They missed a call on that one, but then again this play will be like the Seguin call.

Fans of the Pens will say it was malicious and purposeful. While the film and actions show it wasn't.

Letang's slash was as bad as Ovie's.
