Yep Lewis screwed Albon. Maybe Albon will get some payback hanging out in the back next year

Albon complained that Alpha Tauri raced him too hard. He cried over the radio.

Albon even said himself that he was surprised he got a drive coming out F2.

Even RBR doesn't think he is a top 4 option

I was just perusing reddit and they posted a Marca story indicating Zhou's sponsor is willing to pay 30 million Euros for that 2nd seat at Alfa Romeo...

r/Formula1 discussion about it

Keep Gio?

Has Gio ever done anything? You never hear anything about him. If he was replaced I dont think anyone would notice.

I don't think Gio is anything special. He has managed to still look decent this year. Alfa, like Haas, has chosen not to develop the 2021 car at all and focus on next year.

If you look at the head to head halfway through the year he is holding his own

Do any of y'all listen to the three legs four wheels podcast? They have an Antonio Giovinacci Participation award they give out each week. Giovinacci usually wins it.

Gasley's the one who was kicked in the balls and has shown he should be in RB2.

Gasly got a raw deal. Kvyat to some extent as well. Albon is the one they took time with and gave him plenty of room to grow, and he got progressively worse.

So I guess the outstanding question is the AR seat...

Does Gio go and if so, does Mic slide over and then Haas sell his seat too

The Mercedes car is not as dominant this season as in years past

Lol, I am repeating myself, but Gasley and Redbull do not have a good relationship. I was listening to something this week and they were talking about how Redbull leadership is still furious with him for saying he thought he got treated poorly when he was the number 2 driver. And Gasley at first was embarrassed and wanted to return to “prove himself”, but he has had a strong about face and has made it clear he wants to be the number one driver and won’t take a number 2 seat.

That's the right decision. To use TD terminology, once you accept a beta position (think Barrichello), you will always be a beta. It's better assert your alpha status and hope you reach a top team as a #1 or at least with equal status. Max is clearly a #1 driver, so Red Bull is not a destination for Gasly.

Horner and Marko don't hide their feelings about their drivers. It seems like they'll start badmouthing their own drivers when they start falling out of favor, or at least they won't pretend to show full support for the driver when he's on his way out. Albon did better than Gasly in a partial season when he replaced him, then struggled when he was given a full year. Now, Horner is making it clear that Albon is a valued member of the Red Bull family. I think someone (either Horner or Perez) gave Albon a lot of credit this year for his simulator work. Also I wanted to point out that no one on the Red Bull or AlphaTauri teams have shown a loss in faith in Tsunoda. My impression is that their attitude now is that a new driver deserves two full seasons to get up to speed in F1, because of the lack of testing time and the increasing complexity of the cars.

If Horner holds a struggling driver in high-enough regard that he still wants him in the family and is working to get him a seat, then I will assume he has a better insight to his potential than a fan will have just looking at the situation from the outside.

Horner also wants Albon driving because that is income for Horner/Marko.

No idea how Albon's contract is written, but if he is still under a Red Bull Academy contract then there is financial motivation to get him a seat.

Well that's a bit of a cynical take.

it is F1 afterall.

Some of the reports have George as the driving force behind Albon going to Williams. Said he was pushing for Albon to be his replacement, introduced Williams to the idea.

F1 Insta account just had an announcement up for de Vries to Alfa, then took it down.

Also, Kubica sitting in for Kimi again this weekend.

I had forgotten that Monza is another sprint qualifying again. I hated the first time, I'll give it another fair shot but wasn't excited about the first attempt.

I wasn't a huge fan of it either. There are some perks, but if feels forced.

Also

quote:

The Mercedes team principal said during the Dutch Grand Prix weekend that while Albon “deserves a seat in Formula 1”, he was only “happy to work with him as long as they let him free from his Red Bull contract”.

It has now emerged this will be the case, although Red Bull have retained an option on Albon for the future.

Looks like Albon is no longer in the Red Bull Academy
