Exactly, for example when Holmes beat Ali or when Ali beat Liston we didn’t get this “well he was old so it doesn’t count” BS. Even when Tyson beat Holmes it didn’t happen but once Tyson lost to Lennox people began to rewrite history. You look at someone like Ken Norton beating Ali, that elevated him to where everyone knows his name, as it should’ve, but look at the rest of his wins, they’d be called tomato cans if he were subjected to the type of scrutiny we see given to post 80s fighters. IMO boxing was bigger and title fights were on national TV prior to the 90s so the normie fan had a better understanding of what great fighters were where the post pay per view era normies only tuned in for mega fights, the general audience lost the proper awareness of boxing. Imagine a heavyweight going through the title tourney Tyson went through today. It’s unheard of to fight that many times in such a short span and for good reason but you’ll never see it brought up in discussion because many people don’t even realize it happened.

Laugh all you want. Doesn't change the fact that Tyson is the most overrated heavywieght in history. One legit win was against Spinks and he was at the end of his career. Didn't beat any legit fighters in their prime except maybe Tony Tucker. Knocked out by Douglas, struggled with Ruddock, 0-3 against the two best heavyweights of his era.

But you’re making my point, arguing that going to prison benefited Tyson is completely nonsensical and a great example of the retroactive, false narrative building the other poster and I are talking about. Labeling a very poor and ignorant option as fact is just the cherry on top. Besides, nobody was ranking heavyweights so injecting a straw man into the point being discussed is more proof you’re just parroting an opinion of something you didn’t witness and have a very limited view on.
