i think we're both in agreement that he wasn't that close to a national title

FWIW they were 1 game away from playing in the MNC.

A 44 point arse whipping that kept them from even making the conference title game.

Notice I said "to play in the MNC," not to win it

I cant remember Tulane ever getting a JUCO football player.

Last JUCO I remember in football was Xavier Salazar back in the mid nineties.

I think RR would be a good hire. He was there before so he knows the area and if he recuits well he can win in C-USA or if they do get a Big 12 invite they can at least go 6-6 and 7-5 with good non-conference scheduling.

Tulane has potential that USL (ULL), La Tech, and ULM can never reach.

Yeah they're definitely on another playing field with their rabid fanbase, on campus stadium, and committed administration.

They have the football history that most football programs can not match .... it is a shame that they have fallen so far ... it will ve interesting to see who they hire.

and still have basic issues like parking to deal with

FWIW, they never had parking for football at TU.

the deal with parking at Tulane has been one of those things floating around for years. Because Tulane does not own their stadium at present (or the parking facilities around the Superdome) it is typically pointed out that they can not financially benefit (parking fees) from what fans attend Tulane games

Thus, one of the rationales for Tulane sucking (as presented by some people who love Tulane football) is a financial one. Without the ability to keep the take on parking fees they can not profit... and without making more money they can not invest more into a program that already runs heavily in the red.

So, to reiterate my original point. If they indeed were to somehow generate enough donations to build a new on campus stadium (which I do not think they are that close to doing) they would still have to figure out a way to deal with the parking issue (preferably in a way that actually let them keep the money)

But I have heard of no plans to buy up additional neighborhood city blocks and convert those to parking structures - which strikes me as only way to actually make money if fans start showing up (and driving in). Would doing that be worth the expense? I don't know. Tulane doesn't have a ton of people going to the games and if they were to build a campus type stadium what fans did show would likely be disproportionately students and locals (who as a group are less likely to use the new parking structure)

Put me down as a skeptic on this whole thing. The tail is wagging the dog even tho the tail is pushing a sport that very few (if any) midmajor programs have shown the ability to actually make money playing

Ch. 6 news just said he's the #1 candidate right now. He'd be better than Toldeo but definitely not a splash hire.

Pro-style, I think. He was the OC for the Packers at one point, and also I'm pretty sure he was highly thought of when he was at BC, which ultimately led to him being let go from there. He seems to be kind of an a-hole though. It's not a 'splash' hire like someone else said, but it is definitely a step up from Toledo.

naw

he was teh HC with matt ryan, after o'brien went to NCState. then he flirted with an NFL job and got straight up fired

then he went to be OC at Tampa Bay and got fricking fired right before the season started

he didn't do shite after that, b/c steve logan was likely the brains behind that operation. he got fired from a UFL team
