not for the US

But in soccer you keep playing and keep scoring. It's the way to show respect for the opponent and the sport, and who doesn't love goals?

highly doubt any of Thailand's women could make high level D1 or pros

Thailand’s women are professional athletes

They aren’t high level but they are professionals

Thailand played China, Japan, Nigeria, France, and Italy. Three of those are teams that expect to be in the quarters. All 5 are World Cup mainstays.

None won by more than 3 goals.

This stupid shite is like implying that if a WNBA player beat a teenager from Cameroon in 1v1 by a score of 150-0...then she must be better than the average NBA player.
woah now, slow your roll.

not for advancing, but for winning the group

if we beat Chile , Sweden beats Thailand, and we draw Sweden, then 1st or 2nd could come down to who put the most past Thailand (depending on our score vs Chile)

This is the rare case where 2nd place is likely more desirable.

that's not even a concept in soccer. There aren't enough goals scored to stop when you can put double digits on the scoreboard

Ok keyboard warrior. I apologize for having an opinion on the matter. How dare I think captaining the US national team while also disparaging the country is hypocritical and screams "I want attention". Never did I say I'm boycotting or won't watch the games because of what some dumb bitch says

After 45 minutes of obliterating the Brazilian defense en route to a 5-0 halftime lead in the World Cup semifinals, the Germans made a pledge to show respect to the host nation in order to not embarrass them.

Oh frick off.

That’s more insulting to me than a team going hard whistle to whistle. It’s condescending. And yes, that’s from someone who actually played women’s soccer.

The faux outrage over the goal differential when Thailand themselves has run up the score in a friendly before is hilarious. You want to bitch about their comments? Fine. But in World Cup play the gloves should come off.

The real reason so many "experts" are being critical of team USA, is because this goes against the "women power" movement. Beating Thailand 13-0 goes against the very argument they used to expand the FIFA Women's World Cup to 24 teams. They want you to believe that women sports are on some sort of crazy upward trajectory. This game illustrated how FAR women's soccer is from men's. It simply says that there aren't 24 quality countries that play women's soccer and THAT is the secret that got out yesterday. One would naturally think that a World Cup qualifier would be worthy team, but Thailand wasn't in any way shape or form worthy of such an honor. The Americans exposed that yesterday and the world's "experts" and media are pissed about it.

Even for the Men’s I think it’s too many (32 and when it increases to 48 it will get worse

Even when it goes to 48...you will NEVER see a 13-0 game in the first round! Maybe a 6-0 type of game, but never a 13-0 completely ridiculous game. I mean really, how did Thailand qualify?? How bad must the teams be that they beat to get into the World Cup?
