This is my first year watching F1 and I wanted to like Lewis but he makes it pretty difficult at times.
His public persona turns me off -- the neck tats, the nose stud, the jet set lifestyle -- but it's his life and he gets to live it however he wants to. Who's to say I wouldn't do the same thing in his situation? But I'll say this about him. He seems like a genuinely good person deep down. He is humble. He gives lots of credit to his team (even after criticizing them). He always remembers to thank the fans. He respects his opponents. He worked hard to be where he is. I just wish that he'd trust his strategist a little more and not whine publicly over the radio. Certainly, as fightin tigers said, he wants to win every race. You can't blame him for that. But at the end of the day, the team takes priority over the drivers. The team winning the constructor's is what allows them to give him the salary that they do.

My theory was based on Vettel saying that there was a headwind into the S Curves. Maybe that increased the downforce enough to cover for their weakness? The wind was pretty strong during qualifying.
It's as good a theory as any. The wind was pretty strong, even during the race. Aftereffects of the storm I guess.

Vettel and Leclerc both said they were shocked to lock out the front row.
I was shocked as well. I mean they were most of a second behind the Mercs in practice. To make up that kind of time is almost unheard of.

Him bringing sponsorships to the team is what pays his salary now.
Before this new crop of drivers F1 was in a bad spot. There is no other driver that transcends the sport. There is no celebrity to market F1 with if HAM were to leave.
Some of the new drivers are actually open personally like HAM and it will help the sport tremendously if it keeps up.
I don't agree with him not being a team player, plenty of evidence otherwise, but obviously I am biased. He has never just laid down, but Bottas gets tons of shite for playing wingman. So, not really sure what is expected of a driver when we criticize for wanting to win and also criticize if they don't want to win.

Yeah valid point but the team should still come first.
I'm not criticizing him for wanting to win. I'm criticizing him for bitching at his strategist publicly. But then I'm also biased.

There has been a lot discussed about the online messages being potential misdirection as well. Complain about the tires falling off while laying down the fastest lap times and such. HAM isn't inept when it comes to setting up a car, so it gives some credence to that theory.
I imagine that there will be some interesting stories written about his career if/when he moves on from the sport.
The stories of the mind games the drivers play are the most interesting to me.

I think his persona turns me off more than anything as well, though I don't mind the tattoos, or the piercings, it's more the love for PETA, telling the Faroe Islands that they all should go vegan, complaining about climate change while jet setting across the globe while being the number one race car driver in the world. He sort of breaks the mold of what you think a racing driver should be, has any other racing driver had their own fashion line? I'll give him major props for marketing himself as he has, he's one of the best and has earned it.

A couple of years ago he spent his summer break in Cuba. Then a month later before the US Grand Prix he was openly contemplating kneeling during the US anthem. I think someone reminded him that Mercedes sells more cars in the US than anywhere else and he dropped it.
I was hoping he would do it. He's relatively anonymous in this country and it would have been fun to watch him hurl himself into the middle of a hurricane.

I mean, he's amazing in a race car but he's a bit of a diva. Apparently this was on his IG story yesterday, I'd like to think maybe he's having some personal issues but judging by his some of his previous post this reads as he's 100% upset about the environment or something

If I were a five (going on six) time Formula One World Champion, I wouldn't find myself too concerned about anything except winning some more.

He's concerned about the environment yet he jets all over the world with a huge support crew to race cars.
STFU Lewis.

Lets see him kneel in China, Russia, or the UAE

Has come up many times over his career. Surprising how f1 lets it linger out there and doesn't SJW it.
They really do a good job of letting all the media police itself and call each other out. Not something you see in a lot of other sports.

Nah, he is a SJW when it comes to this stuff. I have no idea how intelligent he really is, but he jumps on clickbait shite all the time with no research. Reminds me of a high school dropout on Facebook.

We need more Kimi's

Posted on 10/15/19 at 2:54 pm to Roll Tide Ravens
I like Kimi, but that type of attitude is terrible for the popularity of the sport.
Lando, Danny Ric, and Hamilton when he isn't being a drama queen are all good for getting the drivers outside the F1 bubble.
I will say I was skeptical about Liberty Media, but they have made the non-race parts way more entertaining.
