re: Ezekiel Elliott informs Cowboys he won't play in 2019 without a new contract

I just saw this. Elliot is scheduled to make about 4M. Maholmes is going to make less than 800k and is the reigning NFL MVP..
Mahomes will get massive contracts. In fact the day he's extended, he'll be the highest paid player ever.
So yeah, bringing up Mahomes salary in this discussion is laughable

And Maholmes will probably play twice as long and will be making $25-$30 million a year within 3 years if he doesn’t get hurt.
While I’m not a big of him and certainly not the Cowboys, I think Zeke is doing this at the right time, despite his age. His leverage is that he makes Dak better. He is more valuable than his mere production. He makes their offense—and team, by proxy—better than the sum of its parts. And Jerry is too old to start over and win. Super Bowl.
Dak is the one with the least leverage imo. I like his intangibles, but his physical skills are easily replaceable. Especially without Zeke. His agent needs to be doing everything he can to convince Zeke and Jerry to work something out. He doesn’t want to get exposed going a whole season at this point of his career without and elite RB.

From a “honor your contract” stand point
Why should players have to honor their contracts if teams don’t have to?

Yeah that’s what I was saying

What team hasn't honored a contract?

Let this POS stay out.... he signed a contract and should honor it.... with the o-line the cowboys have they should be able to find a RB that would be decent.....

He had almost no say in negotiations for that contract

Cowboys Oline has been average to below average for 2 seasons now

I don’t care how much say he had in it... HE signed it and knew what to expect....

And now he’s using the leverage that is allowed to him with that contract to get a new contract.

Bill Simmons brought up that Elliott's leverage could possibly be Jerry Jones insatiable desire to win a Super Bowl.
"Yeah, running backs have a short shelf life, but you could be dead in 5 years. How bad do you want this."
76 years old. Clock is ticking.

As an NFL player, you have to use whatever leverage you’ve got.

If you’re going to do the whole “cutting is part of the NFL contract” song and dance then you also have to admit that holding out and the consequences of such are just as much a part of an NFL contract as that is so Zeke is honoring his contract.

Good so let him sit out... bye bye Elliot.

If Elliott sits out the Cows have zero shot at winning a title. None. It's mind blowing the amount of credit Dak gets for wins when the entire reason the Cows offense is worth a damn is Zeke pounding defenses into submission. Pay that man his money.

Jerry Jones is loving this.
Negotiations are his Brazzers.

If he wants a contract similar to Bell, then yes, pay him.
But a Gurley like contract is not the market. It was an outlier and reportedly Zeke is wanting more guaranteed than Gurley got.
Stephen was on the radio yesterday and said their offer was, ‘More than generous’.

If you heard the way he said it, he sounded genuinely peeved in regards to how Zeke reacted to the offer.
I do get what you’re saying though, it’s not like Stephen Jones is going make it sound like they are the ones holding up negotiations lol.

Please point to the case where an NFL team didn't abide by the collectively bargained contracts with a player? Just because the NFLPA is one of the worst bargaining agencies on Earth, don't blame the owners.
Besides, everyone on here knighting for Zeke would be absolutely hammering their favorite team's GM if he didn't release an underperforming player that he could according to the CBA. It works both ways.
If the players really wanted to change the system they wouldn't live such profligate lifestyles so that they're helplessly vulnerable everytime a showdown with owners occurs.

And Zeke is doing the same.

That’s not working both ways. That’s very much working one way

Most players in the league weren’t playing during the last work stoppage.
