It was actually Ruston because they couldn’t beat them in district. The proposal was literally written by Ruston’s principal. The thought was they would go bankrupt if they couldn’t pull gates from larger schools, plus kids wouldn’t want to leave other states for a 1A title and GED.

The GED thing seems to be overlooked a lot. They were literally a football factory.
it was a couple of NE LA schools that were in the 7 that pushed play in class and 4 in NOLA.

Did Evangel play in all the divisions during their run? They were 3A in the mid-90s, and the reason why Coach Bags (RIP) never won a state title.

Regardless, the entire playoff set up sounds like it has been chaotic forever. Not sure what the proper setup should be.

It was pretty balanced if you look at brackets and started sliding in 80s

In 4a in 80s only 1 private won state and 2 runner ups

5 a didn’t have a private title till ECA

What we have now is probably the best we can realistically get IMO

Hahnville beating Evangel in the dome was one of the best games I had ever seen.

We used to play Calvary in middle school football in 1982. So, they've been around a while.

I'm sure for a small fee John Booty will come build a football program for any HS team.

Super cool of them to do this the first year my HS was good and then drummed them 42-7 in the state title

The easy thing would have been to keep everything the same (1A-5A all combined) but have a Super Classifcation (6A) where all the top teams can choose to play regardless of enrollment.

And John Curtis could still play their little 4A scared hearts out like in the late 90s.

No one would choose it willingly. You’d have to force teams to play in it

This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen. Evangel was a football factory recruiting players from all over, especially Texas. Their “school” was literally a couple portable buildings and trailers. You are a straight up retard

I think a promotion/relegation system would work.

Oh I don’t think that’s true. The big football programs would all want to play up.

And to be more specific that Super Classification would be football only.

I agree with this but I was also just ok with the way things were (play up if you want, no splitting). I am a public school guy and I understand the argument in selective and non selective enrollment. It just doesn't feel the same when I see a team win a championship now. They didn't have to go through all of 5A or 4A. They went through just a portion of it.

9 yard shotgun, so no pass rush, and throw it to fast af guys against teams not used to defending so much passing

It was nuts

I went to a playoff game between Evangel when they played Ryan Perrilloux's East St. John. That was the fastest collective group of kids on a football field I have ever seen. Just speed merchants all around. Evangel eventually pulled away but it was fun to watch.
