It actually began in 1970 when many other private schools in Louisiana started. The high school closed in the late 1980’s, I would say 89. The school remained open in the elementary and jr high. The high school reopened when the conflict between the Booty’s and Duron’s occurred.

Yeah but I’m sure he was talking about the high school

Yeah but you just said it closed in 89 and didn’t reopen until the 2000s

So question

I counted the select and nonselect schools as it currently is and it’s 208-200 selects have a slim majority

Is the split in all forms gone in January if we have a 208-200 vote?

Or is it baked into the LHSAA Constitution to where it requires a 2/3 vote? They would need all selects and 64 nonselect schools across all classifications if that was the case

It was actually Ruston because they couldn’t beat them in district. The proposal was literally written by Ruston’s principal. The thought was they would go bankrupt if they couldn’t pull gates from larger schools, plus kids wouldn’t want to leave other states for a 1A title and GED.

The GED thing seems to be overlooked a lot. They were literally a football factory.

Name the kids. All the Booty’s grew up within walking distance of the school. First Assembly which was the original church behind the school was just a few miles from campus(old Shreveport Country Day). The Pittman brothers came from Minden. A lot of the out of state kids were kids of GM workers that lived in Waskom and Elysian Fields.

Sounds about right. Couldn’t remember when the great schism happened but it split the dynasty right up. Big egos led to the big split.

That’s funny. WM benefited greatly from the closure of Ridgedale Academy just a few miles down the road. Ridgedale closed about the time WM began their winning tradition. Hmmm,…

Kinda sounds like the unfounded rumors about guys like Bradie James being illegally recruited to play at West Monroe. Oh wait.

What do you mean? It’s verifiable. They were not accredited. They were giving out GEDs. I know multiple people that graduated from there. They’re the ones that told me.

Per Wikipedia…I know, I know…

As of May 2013, according to the SACS website,[2] Evangel is one of twenty-five schools to have earned SACS accreditation in Caddo Parish, and one of eight private schools to have done the same. Evangel Christian Academy is a state approved (K(5)-12) school through the Louisiana State Department of Education.

I graduated from Ridgedale Academy in 1985, one the last few classes before it's closure after the 1989 school year. While the school did win a couple of state titles in the old LISA league, it was never a threat to West Monroe or any school nearby.

What benefitted WM was simply Don Shows and his intolerance for playing kids over better athletes because their parents ran the program. It was always well known that WNHS had the potential to wreck the state if they ever got there act together. Shows really a good coach and did indeed get their act together and kept that way for a long time.

Now when it came to drinking beer, hardly anybody could hang with us RA boys.

Never meant to imply Ridgedale was a threat to other schools. Its closure benefitted WM at about the same time Shows arrived.

Y’all had some damn fine cheerleaders…

Evangel was a football factory that ran the spread before the spread was popular in high school. They also had the power of the Lord behind them (just ask them, they would gladly tell you).

But as usually is the case, when you get real good, power struggles develop, and it breaks apart.

The Evangel star crashed just as brightly and quickly as it rose.

But maaaan, in the late 90s, they were fun to watch...

Evangel would still be Evangel if the Booty/Duron split never happened. Now you have a "split squad" with Evangel and Calvary.

Your quote says as of 2013 evangel is one of 25 in caddo, not that they got accreditation in 2013.

The search on the linked website to that citation shows that it was accredited in 2002.

Multiple years before the linked article in the OP where as per the usual Evangel beat WM.

Other schools mentioned in this thread were accredited much later than that.

They were always a 1A enrollment.
The first effort the LHSAA to curtail their and JCs recruiting and dominance was to force them to play in the lower classifications so that elite players wouldn’t want to go play for them…. The result was that a 4A and a 5A power house each destroyed 1A and 2A competition for a few years. It was this futile effort that eventually led to the split

Calvary Baptist was a major factor in diminishing Evangel as a product

not nearly as much as a split in the Church at ECA

you could see a lot of proposals come Jan meeting - so stand by but again, smaller schools are likely not to vote for it.
