I don't see the problem. They are basically just offering a package for people who want the ESPN family and don't want to pay for all the other channels that come with YouTube TV. If you have YouTube TV or some other streaming service, I don't see how this would affect you.

The only time you really NEED the ESPN channels is during CFB season and even then you’d still want/need Fox, FS1, CBS, NBC/Peacock, Big 10 Network, etc. So you’re still probably better served just getting YTTV for the season.

Sports have become too damned expensive to even watch at home now, nevermind going to games.

This is why I was excited about Venu. $30 for ESPN crap is still a lot when you have to listen to Beth Mowin and Doris Burke.

Anyone with a brain knew that the streaming model was too good to be true and wasn't going to be much, if any, improvement over traditional cable.

At the end of the day, the network fees are just too high, mostly due to the sports broadcasting rights

I wonder if this means the previously announced app with ESPN/fox/tnt is dead

It's the last thing people actually watch. So these networks are gonna fight like hell to get the broadcast rights and then squeeze out every last possible dollar once they have them.

Sounds like I may stream during sports seasons that I like and drop it for dead periods, basically the same as the rest of my streaming services.

Also check your phone plans, a ton of phone and Internet plans come with free streaming.

People that consistently pay for streaming services baffle me. I'll pay for 3 months of Netflix, 3 months of Paramount, 3 months of Peacock, 3 months of HBO and just prioritize the services. Ironically I enjoyed the less choice, but now I get most free through my Internet and phone plans.

I may be an idiot here but how is this different than the current iteration from espn+?

“Plus” has all college live events on SEC and ACC plus you can watch the games airing on their family of networks.

This just reads like a price hike for “plus”? What am I missing ?

ESPN+ does not include games that air live on ESPN, ESPN2, SEC Network, ABC. It only includes "special" sporting events and SEC Network+.

To put simply, ESPN+ only includes minor sporting events they don't air on their major channels.

The advantage with Youtube TV is that it's easy to switch between games and watch multiple games at the same time on multiview during college football season.

frick YouTube tv, the play is Hulu live with espn currently. YouTubeTv will probably do another price hike by September.

Not gonna lie, I’m kind of intrigued as an LSU/SEC fan. Plus you save 40 ish dollars a month moving over from YTTV.
I would still prefer the one app they proposed with ALL sports channels exclusively, none of the extra lagniappe like the Food network.

Sadly, cable services aren't what they used to be. They all require a box to be setup at each TV and don't include the sporting events that are streaming only, which is slowly increasing.

Last year, Thursday night NFL football only aired on Amazon prime. Also, I believe NBC had a few college football games last season that were only viewable via streaming on peacock.

Also I know of no cable packages that include ESPN+ which is the only way to watch most college baseball games.

I do agree that watching TV is 2025 is too damn complicated. I miss the days of flipping between 72 channels.

Which service do you use or prefer? Any advice?

I've seen things like Apollo, XtremeHD and CatchOn, but don't really know what to make of them or if they are reliable and I can watch what I want.

Apollo is the only one of those I tried, but it's pretty easy for a beginner. They even have their own app. Just make sure you aren't going to a fake website. They are very close to the original. Look up an article about it with a link there if you want to be certain. They offer a free trial which the fake ones usually don't do.

Playstation VUE was so GOATED and it got squashed by big cable. You could do pick your own foursome on the Sunday Ticket app on there too.

You’ve priced cable recently?

It’s 130+ per month to get a package that contains espn.

ESPN (cfb, mbb) is pretty much all I watch on actual TV. I think way more would sign up if they lowered it by $10, but I'll probably get this instead of reactivating Sling. It could be worse, and I'm glad this option finally exists. Idk why it took them so long to roll out
