At Miami, he was 1-2 in the AFCCG. All three games were in Miami.
As tough as the NFC was during his career, there’s no shame in not winning a Super Bowl. But if he were as good as some people think, he absolutely either should have won a natty at Pitt or at least made it to more than one Super Bowl with the Dolphins.
This is a wild take. Outside of Duper and Clayton, the talent in Miami was pretty bad. During the length of his career, '84-'99 The Dolphins only had 4 seasons where the defense ranked in the top 20 in the league. Two of those seasons were at the very end of his career. Only one time did in his career the Dolphins had a 1,000 yard rusher. Look at the great QBs of his era and all the Hall of Famers they played alongside. Marino only played with one, Dwight Stephenson. No one carried a team more singularly than Marino.

Marino had 5 losses as a starter, they were to two #11 ranked teams, a #4 ranked team and a #2 ranked team and eventual national champions, the lone unranked loss was to Notre Dame in '82. 3 of the 5 losses the defense gave up over 30 points. The only really questionable game of his career was the last one which was the Cotton Bowl against the SMU Pony Express.

Anyone having Bruce Smith anywhere outside the top three in their defensive end rankings is bananas. The two greatest DE's of all time were drafted in back to back drafts in 84 and 85. only was able to catch the tail end of both of their careers but man White and Smith wrecked the league from the mid 80's to mid 90's.

Big fan of Tony Gonzalez though not a fan of his teams.
I watched him the Georgia Dome in the 2012 divisional round against the Seahawks. The man was always where he was supposed to be every time and caught everything. (side note: TE Zach Miller also had an excellent game that day)
It didn't matter how they tried to cover him. He was either too big for the DB or too fast for the linebacker and he always had position on the defender. I don't know of many who played TE better than him.
On top of that he could block. A true complete TE.
