Is this the thread where we blame it on being woke while ignoring Disney+ subs, an equally if not more woke platform, are up to 100+ million?

Yeah I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that they just hit their 5 year sub mark in like 8 months.

Do they though? There are a lot of folks that are "anti-woke" that have kids. Disney + is a treasure trove of content for kids.

I dont watch ESPN unless a game I want to see is on it. Luckily I'm not watching basketball and Rays games and Lightning games arent on ESPN often.

Oh yea definitely for that demographic

But as I’ve said, they also have a strong soy following
Mostly the Star Wars, Super Hero, Hamilton group. Strong Soy Boy Following

have you seen discovery’s programming? It’s nothing but reality tv shows now with an occasional documentary.

It's a fricking joke what the educational channels have become.

History Channel, Discovery, TLC, A&E, and Travel Channel are 90% trash.

History Channel in particular went all in on reality shows at some point in the last 10-15 years and drove me away

I like the Smithsonian Channel. Flyover America is a really interesting show.

Is ESPN available a la carte, anywhere?

Wouldn't losses just mean people are cancelling cable / streaming subscriptions?

Disney+ comparison is asinine. Disney+ has had inflated numbers because a lot of people got a one year free subscription. Compare that when people have to start paying for it. I had read that something like 40%-50% Weren’t paying customers just customers

The mouse doesn't give anything away. Those "free" subs, someone is paying for, perhaps at a discounted/bulk rate (like Verizon).

I'm far from woke, my kids watch Disney + all the time. Mainly movies and the old re-runs.

Very interesting chart, here's mine..One of the problems, among many, is that @espn has no on air talent during its morning and afternoon weekday shows..no show in the top 50 on Monday..other than PTI, not one show had over 250,000 viewers.. ?? ..they're doomed..

So I’m not sure where that 100 million subscriber number is coming from but their own numbers say they are at 60 million currently. They are ahead of what they projected for it by a very sizable margin, but a lot of that is due to the Wuhan Flu bump in March.

3 periods will be telling for them:

1. When those 1 year free subscriptions end from Verizon - mind you, they are free for the Verizon users, but Disney does still get paid.

2. When lockdown subsides, do people keep it around?

3. What effect does season 2 of the Mandalorian and then the launch of the MCU shows have?

For the HoM, the ideal situation is the Verizon subscriptions run out (or Verizon continues it), then Season 2 plus the MCU shows drop right after, and then the lockdown subsides with people hooked on the shows plus you can throw your blockbusters into theaters in the late fall into winter to secure a bag during your typical slow period when people are craving indoor activities with a social aspect.

Every person with a Verizon phone got a free subscription to Disney+ and discounted rates on the rest.

That is a frickton of "subscribers"

We will see what that number is when people realize Verizon is going to autobill them after 1 year

Subs?

Too much emphasis on 12 year old silliness. Music and dunks

They aim for teenagers and adults turn them off.
