By the same token, shouldn't the NFL as a private business in this so called free country be allowed to set minimum standards for entry into their league?

Of course not.

They don't. It's collectively bargained for with the players association.

The only thing preventing 18 y/olds for playing in the NFL

I would hope that YOU would NOT want to see an 18 year old kid get mammed for life by trying to play in the NFL.

It's simple if you want to ignore the actual situation and just talk bout what you wish it was.

And that is different from the media discussion that lead to thread how?

All that is being discussed here is what someone else wants. This entire "situation" is entirely media generated. Many in the media think Clowney should be allowed to go pro, which means they think they a private business should be forced to take him. I disagree. The owners could not act unilaterally even if it was 100% legal for them to do so anyhow.

same with the NF

no, its not. The alcohol rules are laws passed by the government.

The 3 years after HS rule in the NFL is decided by the NFL and the NFL PA.

You should be able to enter the draft at 18 in every sport there is no good argument against it

You and I aren't in the media and have forum that allows for a more complete discussion not just 30 second sound-bites.

Rules/laws are made for a reason. yes, it is the same. I know who makes the alcohol law and who makes the NFL rule, but it is the same idea.
18 year olds are too young to play in the NFL and the NFL knows it.
But the real reason I am stating this is that the NBA teams have screwed themselves too many times by drafting that guy right out of high school (back in the day) just so another team wouldn't get him. And too many of those failed. The NFL knows it has a more reliable, older pool to choose from, therefore they don't want to rock the boat.

Yes there is. An 18 year-old kid going into the NFL would get DESTROYED so bad. a injury that would effect the rest of his life within the pre-season. They are NOT physically ready for that kind of punishment yet.

Well that's their bad. Who are you to say a grown man can't make the decision if he is physically ready or not?

Well an 18 year old kid can defend this country flying a $10 million jet and yet can't buy a beer at a bar.

Amobi Okoye at 19 was able to with stand the oh so violent NFL just fine. Yet at 18 superior athletes like Adrian Peterson, Randy Moss, Devin Hester, Herschel Walker, Deion Sanders, Marshall Faulk, Charles Woodson, Terrell Suggs would of just been destroyed and injured for the rest of their lives muahahahah

and now he's gonna bust out of the NFL by 26...

maybe if he had waited a few years he might have been a bit more prepared

Or maybe he just wasn't good enough to be in the NFL regardless of whether he played.

The idea that practicing 20 hours a week for 2 more years at Louisiville would have been better for his career than making the NFL his full time job is laughable.

He has been in the NFL for 7 years. Lot longer than most get.

Well, it's not up to us. It's up to the nfl, and the nfl says it doesn't want 18 year old kids in its league.

I don't understand the issue here.

+1

NFL is the business and they make the rules. Don't like it, sit out or buy your an insurance policy.

Would Randy Moss have "busted out of the NFL" if he was drafted and played at 18 years old? Yes or No
