nope dude. woj was completely wrong. he said we only had 23 million. he said it was impossible to get a max.
when reality is lake show start out with 32.5 milli first. grab kaawhi. then finish AD trade later. yes you can go over the cap with trades. it's all in the order of operations

As it stands the Lakers cannot afford a max based on everything that has come out about this trade. It is not set in stone or definitive that AD will not waive, Pels can't be sweetened to push to the 30th, but as it stands based on reports coming out about when it will be finalized and AD wanting his $$$ LAke show ain't getting a max if that happens. If AD waives, LAL kicks in some more sweeteners to persuade NOP to wait and take a 5MM cap reduction in the process, whether that be by bringing in a third team to add assets to the Pels, or by adding onto what has already been agreed upon, then LAL can absolutely afford a 3rd max.
No one is arguing that they can't, only that as it stands based on reports it's not a guarantee. WOJ is reporting based on what he has in front of him, then spends time laying out what they can do to get to the 32.5MM.

Larry Coon (writer of the CBA FAQ) is saying that the Lakers can get 30.988 mil max space, even if the trade is structured differently.
ETA: and that's if AD waives his full trade kicker.
