We've been told that Anthony Davis will take his $4M trade kicker so they'll have around $24M to fill out the rest of their roster.

So it looks like Kawhi/Kyrie/Kemba/Jimmy to the Lakers is dead.

Only way I see it is if there's some sort of agreement that the Pels will wait if they have a commitment from a guy before July 6. The only problem with that, is that the Lakers and Pelinka have been getting hammered over this the last 24 hours and there's been nothing but speculation that this is the case. If the Lakers have an agreement in place to push it back depending on certain criteria, you'd think SOMEONE would report that.

I can’t believe he’s not waiving his kicker

And no way in hell the Pelicans are pushing back the effective date of the trade

Probably means that the July 6th date isn't happening.

Here's another random person that says differently:

quote:

BREAKING: A source not authorized to speak publicly has confirmed to me that Anthony Davis plans to waive his $4M trade bonus if it paves the way for LAL to land a high level FA.

I think people making declarative statements on what will or wont happen two weeks from now probably shouldn't cause so much can happen. I thought AD would be more open to waiving his kicker if only because kyrie did so and he didnt even really want to be in Boston. Doesn't seem like hes leaning that way now, but I doubt its something that is totally set in stone

AD is about AD. It's no surprise hes willing to hurt a team for his own gain. Not the first time.

Is it wrong that this makes me feel like it's much more likely to happen now?

I still think this works out for the Lakers eventually because everything usually does somehow

but if AD refusing to waive his trade kicker keeps LA from getting a free agent...I mean, holy shite

suddenly that little barber shop chat about AD being the CEO of his own business doesn't seem so cute and admirable for Bron

the point is if you're believing ESPN there is zero hope for you

they have been consistently wrong throughout this whole thing

Would be a really weird move if he didn’t waive the kicker

Then why haven't we heard anything from Ramona or Brad Turner or any of the other Laker's media confirming that they have a plan in place should they need a 3rd max contract?

SOMEONE would be saying that there's a set in stone criteria for the teams to push the date back. The fact that they're all saying it's unlikely, or that it could happen says that it's not an agreed upon point on the transaction. If that's the case, why would the pelicans push it back voluntarily. There's literally no reasons to do that, and there's a bunch of reasons why they shouldn't.

They wont do it voluntarily. If the lakers have a commitment from a max guy, they will 100% add to the deal to push it back. Its beyond stupid and pelinka should be fired regardless, but I do believe its something that will happen if it absolutely has to
