Helmet used as a weapon. It once was just to protect. Rutgers guy injured himself the same way most of these serious injuries occur, leading with the crown of the helmet.

Remove the helmet and pads, bet the severity of injuries diminishes. May have an occasional severe head injury, but fewer injuries total.

definitely

look at the head injury rates for rugby players, theyre almost nonexistent compared to football players...now of course that will never happen, and i wouldnt support it either

The current NFL administration is the biggest bunch of hypocrites in the world. So it's ok to suspend guys for legal football plays without giving any sort of definition as to what will warrant a suspension, but it's ok to make them play 18 games a year because it will make you more money? Nice Roger.

Because so many people are dying on football fields.

A little overdramatic huh?

I say if you don't like it, don't play. That is what football always has been. If you don't want to take the chance of getting your head knocked off, don't play. It is a pretty simple concept. I liken it to all the bar workers bitching about a smoke free environment. You can work somewhere else.

These guys have been taught for YEARS to lead with their head.

You put your facemask into someones chest yea, but no one anywhere is taught to lead with the crown of their helmet into another person's helmet.

But nobody wants to fricking see players carried off the field with concussions, NOBODY.

Next you will tell me nobody wants to see a knockout in boxing.

bullshite. People do want to see the opposing QB knocked out of the game. They don't want a serious injury but they want the QB out for the rest of the game.

Football is a violent sport. Just below boxing. People like you want to turn it into flag football or even worse.

Exactly. I wonder why Jacked Up was such a big hit? I wonder why they feel the need to let us hear the hit during the replay? You know why, because we like it.

If you're responding to me, I was being sarcastic to whoever it was who claimed this is being done in the interest of "saving lives".

Because so many people are dying way younger than they should because of brain damage?

I didn't catch that one, but the two Harrison hits were no big deal IMO

i just saw it this morning and it was bad

heap went up for a ball, didn't catch it and it popped up. as he was landing BM took a step or 2 and jumped up with his head down directly into heap's head

i think the pats did bench him. that's how bad it was

the kill shot on MM was pretty bad

i can excuse the cribbs hit somewhat b/c cribbs was so low and had his body wrapped up by another defender. there is only so much surface area to aim at. but harrison shouldn't have lowered the helmet

Sorry, I disagree. There's nothing appealing about seeing a guy carted off with a head or neck injury.

Sure people want to see hard hits, and that's fine, I do too, but hard hits that knock players out the game can be accomplished without putting the player career and life in jeopardy.

If you call that wanting to turn the NFL into 2 hand touch, well, ok...

Cowherd just said the NFL is doing something MLB never does, they're being proactive(in regards to the new suspension rule for helmet to helmet)

Proactive?

And then some reporter dude he was interviewing said it was reactionary, and Cowherd agreed, LOL.
