So the equipment is light years better than it was even 10 years ago, but now the NFL is more liable and more concussions are occurring?

Exactly. Because its just been over the last few years that it has come to light EXACTLY what the long term effects of concussions are. The NFL can play the "We didn't know!" card to keep retro-active lawsuits at bay, but they have to be proactive in preventing these kinds of hits to protect themselves in the future.

That's not leading with your helmet. If players keep their heads up, then helmet to helmet will be almost non-existent.

I've got the solution...Mandate that all players must wear the strap on the back of their helmet that Sterling Sharpe used to wear.

I've definitely gone facemask to facemask before.

Facemask to facemask is much less violent than helmet to helmet.

suspensions regarding big hits.

I agree with stopping helmet to helmet but suspensions for big hits is laughable. Like the coach/former player SC quoted no one is making these guys play football. If they don't want to play they can get a normal job like everyone else.

Still fricking hurts like hell. I always hated that milisecond black flash I'd see after hitting someone like that.

Or if they don't like the new rules, maybe they can go play in the UFL.

I would be more worried that the fans won't like the new rules. They are the ones purchasing a product.

I remember seeing that on a NFL Network old game. I was like what the hell is on his helmet

The NHL knew a lockout would kill their fan bases, and they still did it.

I wasn't kidding with my response. Seriously, why not just mandate that strap like NASCAR did with the neck harnesses? Wouldn't that cover the NFL's liability?

I played football for a few years, one of the reasons I quit was because I would always lead with my helmet without thinking about it. I would see black flashes with white dots after nearly every hit. I'd fall asleep with terrible headaches every night.

They can stay in the NFL and break the rules because it is impossible to play competitive football without helmets hitting.

I highly doubt these new rules are going to turn people away from the NFL.

Well, it seems like they would want to avoid the same mistake. I wouldn't put NFL and NHL in the same category though but a lockout+losing star players for games that could change your whole season because of "big hits" can potentially damage football

I just sucked and ran out of high school years to play .
