The HOF should be for the truly great, not for the very good.

Eli Manning was not truly great.

117-117 as a starter
7.0 yards / attempt
60.3% completion
1.5 TDs / 1 INT
0 All-Pro Teams
Nowhere near Tier 1 at his position in his prime

Honestly a joke he'd be considered

He lead his team to TWO Super Bowl vi stories. When a QB can do that, you put him in the HOF. As a QB, you get in with on field performance or Super Bowl wins.
So Dilfer just needed another and he's in?

Arbitrary nonsense

Top 10 in yards and TDs when he retired, still 11th in both, 2 SB wins against no losses, 2 SB MVPs, 8-4 in the playoffs. He’s a lock.

So we can disregard everything you say about the HoF. Got it.

I honestly don't care if he ever gets in, but it's kind of hard to be a top 5 QB when your competition every year is:

Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Drew Brees
Aaron Rodgers

All of which are considered top 5 or top 10 QB's of all time. That basically means only one spot available for the likes of

Matt Ryan
Phillip Rivers
Ben Roethisberger
Etc

Justin Tuck had 4 sacks in those two games and he actually was an all-pro. He's got to settle for the Giants Hall of Fame.

It's hard for a defensive player to get the MVP nod. If you look back at the ones that won them, it was like a one man show on defense. Von Miller had 6 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles(one recovered for a TD). Malcolm Smith had 10 tackles, fumble recovery and an interception returned for a TD.

If Eli didn't lead the Giants down the field in both Super Bowls in the final two minutes and/ or if Tuck sealed the games with a sack, he may have gotten the nod.

Plus, 66 sacks really doesn't get you in the HOF

Eli is in the Top 10 of every single career passing category in the NFL, and he has 2 Super Bowl rings. I can't believe the disrespect his career gets.

I think it’s because of when his career happened. How many other QBs that played the same time as him are on those top ten lists?

I think he had a HoF caliber career but not sure it’s a “stone cold lock” thing either.

Eli getting in would be a joke to me but I think he's getting in.

In an era where QB efficiency and stats were at an all time high, he was never among the greats of the game which is what I think the HOF is about. He has a .500 winning percentage and very mediocre stats.

Even if you take out Brady(who was primus inter pares with other greats like Peyton and Brees) Eli still doesn't fit in that elite tier.

He compiled passing yards in an era where passing yards were easier to come by and he stayed healthy. He won 2 SB's in the NYC media market including beating the 2007 Pats.

If we're putting people in the HOF because of 2 games then why isn't Jim Plunkett in?

How can a player who at NO POINT in his career was considered among the top 5(not a single MVP vote his entire career) at his position be considered one of the all time greats?

so what? Also he's most assuredly NOT in the top 10 of most major passing categories, I dont know where you got that.

Drew Bledsoe threw for a ton of yards(and has a higher career winning%)

Vinny Tesdaverde threw for a lot too

Eli is diet Drew Bledsoe with 2 more magical games. Congrats I guess

He’s 11th in yards and TDs alltime but was top 10 when he retired. Maybe that’s what the poster is remembering.

Count me in the grouping of he shouldn’t be in but he will for all of the reasons mentioned.
He was very mid.
Never thought of him as a top 5 qb in any season.
His stats are bc of longevity and era he played in. He will quickly fall down lists as young QBs get more seasons in.
I believe he only made playoffs 6 times in 16 seasons starting and only won a playoff game in the 2 SB years.
I realize he’ll get in but he should absolutely not be a first ballot guy.

I expect him to get in based upon two fluke Super Bowl wins.

He'll probably get in due to name/Super Bowls, but all I know is that I (as a Dallas fan) never feared my team playing Eli Manning.

I'm curious to what Eli's record was against the Cowboys. I know he has that playoff win against them. He did always struggle against the Eagles.

8-4 playoff record is very good and he played in the best era of QBs. HOF is an alltime award, he was top 10 in the two major categories when he retired with 2SBs, only a handful of QBs out of over 800 who’ve played in the league have done this. He was a #1 pick which means he started with a dogshit team so that factors in too. The Giants only had 2-3 contending type rosters while he was there so he took that slim margin and won when given the chance. Hard to do.

Giants were originally the #5 dude.
Remember the chargers had the top pick and chose Eli.
Eli said he wouldn’t sign so the chargers traded with the giants in exchange for Philip Rivers.
The giants weren’t that far removed from being decent.

I'm sure the Giants won some and lost some. All I'm saying is that they typiclly didn't win those games because of Eli. He just didnt scare you.
