I had to eat at the Marriott in Atlanta once because the people I was with thought Trader Vic's was "too exotic." I was pissed.

Are you trying to say New Orleans, Oxford, and the general southeastern states are the same as NYC?

We’re all on the east side of the country

Their first concern should have been "what's wrong with our management of the team?"

Management could be just fine and a guy could still not want to play there because it could be a shite small market city

Drew wasn't great Drew until he signed with the saints and got paired with Payton.

Bingo!

Probably one of the best coach/QB combinations in the NFL.

Drew Brees, let him walk away

Do you resign him after a shoulder injury, and Phillip Rivers waiting to take over?

They drafted Rivers 4th overall before Brees was hurt. They were always going to move on from the better player which is proof of the dysfunction.

Archie didn't like the idea of demanding out of San Diego at all, but ended up taking a blunt of the criticism because in public he took up for Eli.

interesting. I always assumed Archie was the one behind it, because of how his career played out going to the awful Saints. Spent his whole career running for his life, hurt, and losing.

At the time, Brees was not the better player; you are using the Saints' offense and quick game that Marty did not use for your argument. Plus, what you are paying Brees would have been more than what they paid Rivers on the rookie contract.

You’re using stats to act as if he became a different person. Thats not what a player is, it’s his ability, work and mental capacity for the game. Brees was always going to be better than Rivers.

I didn’t use that argument but If you say it’s based on stats at the time here’s where they were at the time

Drew Brees
Ypg- 209.3
TD- 80
Int- 53
Comp% 62.2
Passer rating 84.9

Rivers
Ypg- 37
TD- 1
Int- 1
Comp% 56.7
Passer rating 67.1

How’s he better by the standard you provided and how does that change the fact that they drafted his replacement before he was hurt?

Two days before the workout, Cam Cameron (OC) sent him a playbook with a $20 bill taped to the last page. He knew he didn't want to go to San Diego and thought about brushing off the $20 thing to tank his stock, but didn't want word to get around the league that he doesn't read playbooks. So he gave it back to Cam on the side where nobody else could see it.

It was a (dumb) way to see if the player actually looked at the playbook and read through it to the end .

Rookie contracts weren’t a thing yet in 2006
