4 > 2. That's the only stat that matters.
At the end of the day, a QB is judged by how many championships he brings home.
That's an idiotic argument

Peyton manning is the only starting Qb in NFL history to win Super Bowls with different teams.....

Damn straight, carried that shitty defense to a title.

They also played the AFC and NFC West in 2008, the worst 2 divisions that year.
So whats the excuse for 2009? They got to play the afc and nfc east and combined those 2 divisions had 1 team above .500.

The irony is glorious.
Brady has a superbowl mvp where he netted 134 yards passing.

I've posted it before, but once you break their stats into outdoor vs. Indoor totals the efficiency stats get very interesting.

Uh. Yeah because one guy's outside games were ONLY road games for 90% of his career. Thats not really fair to manning.

And your excuse for the other 2?

Brady wasnt the most important part of his team until after the 2nd superbowl.
His defenses in 2003 & 2004 were ranked 1st and 2nd in the nfl.
There is nothing that points to Brady being better except team accomplishments.
I have brady in my top 5 alltime list.
1.Manning
2.Marino
3.Elway
4.Brady
5.Montana
Honorable Mentions
Favre
Moon
Rodgers may supplant Montana once he is done.

Exactly. Manning played great outdoors with the Broncos prior to his arm disappearing

Yeah his 2nd season in Denver is statistically one of the 3 best seasons in league history.

You have Marino in your top 5 but no Bree's.... Interesting.

Montana was good, but put him in a different system and his numbers wouldn't be as good.
You mean like when he went to Kansas City and promptly led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game? After he retired the Chiefs wouldn't win another playoff game for 22 years.
Yes, that's a good example of what I mean. Montana's QB rating in his two years with the Chiefs were 87.4 and 83.6. His average QB rating for his two years with Kansas City was 85.0. His average QB rating during his 13 years with San Francisco was 93.5.

His 1st 3 seasons in Denver.
131 tds
36 ints
14,863 yards
Averaged 67.7 completion %
Averaged a qb rating of 107.5
And had 2 of the 4 lowest sack % of his career.
And that was his twilight years. Can you imagine the numbers he wouldve put up, throughout his career, had he always had defenses that could get off the field?

Elway is a notch below those other 3 guys.

Elway is probably the most physically gifted qb to walk the earth. In no way was Montana a better qb than Elway. Elwayn like Manning and Marino were there team's offense.

quote:The 49ers offense got better after Walsh retired. Yet the team results got worse. The object is to win games, and Montana was a winner. That doesn't show up in statistics, but it is obvious when you watch a winner play the effect he has on the game. Why does Elway get credit for this and Montana, who did it better, not?
Montana played in an offense that was light years ahead of NFL defenses for a time, and his coach Bill Walsh was an offensive genius.
P.S. This is why Joe Namath is in the Hall of Fame. If you watched him play you realized that he changed how each game was played. Before his injuries limited him, defenses had to make adjustments to play against him.

Team accomplishment and it was pre salary cap. Those 49er team were loaded with great players. Stop acting like winning then is anything like winning now.
Posted on 9/13/16 at 11:13 am to Rickdaddy4188
Well I do agree those 1988 and 1989 teams were loaded... The first two sb wins by Montana were pretty good. And his passing stats in all his sb's are far greater than any qb in history. I still put Elway above him though.

Namath is in the hall of fame because he was the 1st nfl superstar that the average American ,that didnt watch football, knew about. If he wasnt the flamboyant playboy that played in the media capitol of the US, he wouldnt be in the HoF.
His career passer rating was 65.5
His career completion % was 50.1
He threw 47 more ints than tds.
