that way of thinking is funny to me. idk what else to say

I think it's always a good thing when someone gets a rude awakening about their value.

be it a college kid or an adult co-worker.

so many people see that "Joe" is making 3x's as much money as them, so they pull a maneuver like this dude did, or tries to strong arm their current company with some bullshite offer from someone else that doesn't exist.

CFB is destroying itself with unlimited free agency and a path toward a semi pro or what amounts to an NFL minor league.

Interest will start to wain even for the “big 2” conferences.

I’ve said it before but I don’t know how schools will maintain the fiction of these guys being students any longer

Imagine being paid six figures + to play football at 18 and being told you need to make communications 101 every morning or whatever retarded football players take

I think it works both ways…here’s what we’ll pay you to do X…vs no money and you have to do it anyway. They can just as easily take it away if you don’t show up to ‘tutoring’.

Maybe. I think we’re scratching the surface of where this will all go.

As a kicker, who is apparently a junior in high school, he’s going to get 50k/year?

Are you talking about athletic scholarship or what?

No shite. As a parent it’s tough. My son will only get ~$50k/yr,

Yea my arse.

At this pace, if your son ever makes it on the field, the entire msb will be rooting against him

No. Every single scholarship football player in the SEC gets full scholarship plus the team base NIL.

I actually believe you based on what I’ve heard.

CFB can shitty for using student athletes as a cash cow for so many years.

Explain in detail without using terms like "deserve" or "exploited" exactly how CFB used these players.

Michigan #21 is an outlier and not long for this new climate.

They are not an outlier. UT-Austin and Washington are two of the most prestigious public universities in the country.

Alabama is #170 nationally ranked. That's gonna be the norm

Yeah Alabama dominating football is definitely new. They’ve only done that for close to a century now.

The reality is any school that plays big time college football has ignored the academics of its student athletes for decades.

Michigan is arguably the best public school in the nation, and they took Eyabi Anoma who got kicked out of Alabama and Houston.

Michigan took Anthony Carter (the player who started the #1 tradition) out of Suncoast HS in Riviera Beach, FL and he was reading on a 5th grade level. Spare me the Michigan academic arrogance.

Not really. I haven’t sat down to watch a game besides my own school (even then) in 3 years. NIL has basically ruined my interest now. The smaller schools can’t keep talent, can’t build a program. What interest is there when your star qb can get picked up after having a monster jr year? Kids can leave whenever.

The landscape of traditional cfb has changed and not for the better.

College athletes with a unique skill set in an in demand industry.

But why is it in demand, and how much longer will it be?

I only kept cable for ESPN college football games, and this year I cancelled even that. I think the demand is going to go away.

This. It used to be the case where you sign a solid class and you could count on the majority of the guys on the roster being there for 3-5 years. You watch them grow and develop. Yeah, a handful of elite players are there just waiting to get to the league but it’s usually only a handful.

Now, every single kid is a UFA the second they step foot on campus and money drives everything. I laugh whenever I see some twitter graphic about a kid’s “commitment”. So much roster churn it’s like musical chairs, dudes jumping to hated rivals and no one cares because it’s all about individuals getting their bag now.

I guess I’ll continue to kind of watch for now but I’d take the facade of what was over this mess any day.
