I’m torn.

He won the Heisman fair and square- he was absolutely the best player that year.

He had it stripped over a money thing, not for cheating. I know the Heisman has strict standards.

If the NCAA, Heisman trust and downtown athletic club wasn’t such a joke now I’d say they shouldn’t have stripped him in the first place but going back on that and giving it to him again looks even worse. But like I said they’re a joke so yea just keep making then undoing decisions over and over again as clown world gets more and more stupid.

A very strong argument can be made that he’s the best college football player since 1990.

It’s just a bit difficult to compare him to guys like cam and Vince young, as they played the most important position in football.

I don't get to use my lifetime like the OP?

Do you want me to use the running back position only or the best player as the OP used?

In my lifetime he's up there. And I've been alive since 1987. Here are my candidates:

1987: Tim Brown
1988: Barry Sanders
1989: Andre Ware
1990: Ty Detmer
1991: Desmond Howard
1992: Gino Torretta
1993: Charlie Ward
1994: Rashaam Salaam
1995: Eddie George
1996: Danny Wuerffel
1997: Charles Woodson
1998: Ricky Williams
1999: Ron Dayne
2000: Chris Weinke
2001: Eric Crouch
2002: Carson Palmer
2003: Jason White
2004: Matt Leinart
2005: Reggie Bush
2006: Troy Smith
2007: Tim Tebow
2008: Sam Bradford
2009: Mark Ingram
2010: Cam Newton
2011: Robert Griffin III
2012: Johnny Manziel
2013: Jameis Winston
2014: Marcus Mariota
2015: Derrick Henry
2016: Lamar Jackson
2017: Baker Mayfield
2018: Kyler Murray
2019: Joe Burrow
2020: DeVonta Smith

The bolded are probably the most dominant/electric players that have won the trophy during my lifetime. Of those six athletes, a strong argument could definitely be made for Reggie Bush.

In the last 30 years or so, the absolute standouts are Barry sanders, Bush, Vince young and cam Newton. Michael Vick and manziel would be at the top of the next tier.

Tebow and burrow were great, but benefited significantly from the system they played in and surrounding talent. Cam and Vince were the system.

That's a good list....I've been around since 1963 so I get to use people like Hershel Walker, Bo Jackson, Archie Griffin, Barry Sanders (on your list), Tony Dorsett, Billy Sims, O.J Simpson, Marcus Allen, Deion Sanders, John Elway, Lawrence Taylor, Adrian Peterson, Eric Dickerson, Ronnie Lott, Peter Warrick and so many more.

I don't think the OP really understood how huge the RB position has been for decades. Some real titans have played this game before Reggie Bush showed up.

There are so many great players that never had a shot at the Heisman because of position or school..

No doubt but debate about this greatness isn’t why his Heisman was taken away

he will get it eventually, this was about , LOL, "Cleaning" up cfb

same shite when martha stewart got popped. she wasn't doing anything anyone, especially politicians weren't doing, and what she did was very marginal, but it came after some black eyes to banking industry, and they wanted to make some one popular pay for all of the rest.

He broke a rule that was in place at the time.

If I receive a speeding ticket for 55 in a 45, but the speed limit increases to 55 a few months later, I can’t have my ticket reversed and thrown out after I paid the fines in traffic court.

Yeah...but we're talking about sports here...not actual laws

And even if we were talking about actual laws you wouldn't have a point. Plenty of people have had commuted sentences because of changes to the laws.

Yep. The benefits he received didn’t enhance his performance. Fine or some punishment at the time would be appropriate. Hindsight punishment here is BS.

Pete Carroll doesn't get enough shite for the bitch move he played leaving USC. He cheated, got caught, let his former players catch the brunt of the criticism, then when sanctions were headed their way, he bolted for the NFL to let that program and his players rot away.

Give Reggie his Heisman back

People get pardoned all the time when laws change. Just an example off the top of my head, when Colorado first legalized weed they pardoned anyone of their past weed crimes even though when they got charged they were breaking the laws (rules) at the time.

The Heisman Trust released a statement today stating that they'll welcome him back if the NCAA reinstates his 2005 status.
