Be nice if Brady comes out and said he’s not retiring. 2022 season starts and he takes a knee the 1st play and then tweets retirement on the sideline.

So how did news get out? If he wanted to announce it, why did he tell anyone before? Makes no sense.

Hell, Brady's Twitter even announced it as well.

Incorrect. His merchandise company’s Twitter announced it. And then deleted the tweet. Important distinction.

Some social media manager just saw the news and posted. Walked it back as soon as conflicting reports came out.

I do think he will retire though. I agree he just wanted to be the one to do it

At absolute worst, it will become a Mel Kiper missing on a draft pick type moment.

They're not going to fire their guy who is still among the most plugged into league sources.

Kipers a talent evaluator more than a guy that’s good or bad at predicting who’s gonna pick who. People get the two confused and that’s why he gets a bad wrap. He’s the first person to analyze the draft at that level , besides guys with jobs inside the nfl, like scouts and gms/coaches.

He’s not a bad evaluator

Maybe he shouldn’t have told people who would leak the info?

He could say he was talking about a different Tom Brady.

20% chance Brady plays one more year just because people reported him retiring before he got to do it.

I would do it out of spite tbh

The Buccaneers and Brady's own father have both stated, on the record, that he hasn't made up his mind yet. Now it's possible that they are lying so that Brady can be the one to announce it. Which I think is only right. When you've been in the league for 22 seasons and have done all of the things he has done, you have earned the right to announce it yourself. Schefter is what is wrong with the media. Rather than sit on the story and let Brady announce it on his own terms, journalists like Adam Schefter want to be the first out of the gate even if they don't have all the facts. In the age of the internet, it's so much easier to hit "edit" on a story than it was when print media reigned supreme. You had to have all of your ducks in a row or risk the embarrassment of a very public retraction/apology. Not so anymore.

I agree with what you are saying but who gave Schefter the story?

Someone Brady can’t trust.

Or Brady is intentionally floating it out there via a 3rd party.

He should be. All these guys trying to break the latest news, without having credible info, just to clicks is getting ridiculous.

Nothing happened to Herbstreit. Brady retiring is a bigger deal than Les, but nothing will happen to Schefter. He has a ton of inside resources and gets almost everything right and usually early. NFL network or one of the others would grab in second. He would make them better and ESPN would get worse.

Still think Brady is retiring or he was before this was reported early. He might come back in spite of Schefter, but I doubt it. The season is a long grind, so that would ultimately be punishing himself just because of a little aggravation/frustration at Schefter.
