.. Cause they ain't coming back anytime soon under the current rules.

All the small- and mid-major talent is being funneled up to the big $$ programs, as it is clearly showing.

Just think of that FAU final four team. Now, the 3-player core of it is at Florida, Ark, and Michigan (and their coach).

The days of George Mason and Butker are seemingly long gone.

Think of all the great players in the past that never got seen and scouted, maybe even never made the tournament because they picked the wrong program coming out of high school or they weren’t as wanted then.

It works both ways, tons of guys that were career bench players can now transfer down and be paid at a mid major.

I personally always thought Cinderella's were overrated but we are in what year 2 of NIL? The SEC didn’t necessarily dominate this year due to NIL as much as coaching and luck, plenty of other teams have as much or more money than the bottom of the SEC in basketball.

Yeah, some of these mid-majors have very good basketball programs with a solid fanbase and booster network. Calling programs like Butler, Xavier, Creighton, Cinn, St. Johns, VCU, etc. a Cinderella just isn't true. And that's to say nothing of programs like Villanova, Gonzaga, UCONN that are better than most P5 schools.

No. That’s how you get games like McNeese vs Purdue. Even the St Peter’s team that made the Elite 8 as a 15 got obliterated by UNC.

Most Cinderella teams end up giving a 6-10 seed an undeservedly easy path to the Elite 8 or Final Four

It's fun the first game, but after that makes for bad games

I do prefer the NCAAT upsets far more than in the NBA or NFL playoffs, just due to the nature of the tournament

Think there is overreaction to 1 year. The prior year saw teams like Yale, Duquesne, Grand Canyon, James Madison and Oakland advance. Not to mention a school like Dayton.

There is also money flowing into these smaller programs. Schools like Grand Canyon and High Point in smaller conferences have staying power because of robust NIL collectives. As mentioned, plenty of P5 players are going down to the mid-majors seeking more opportunity for playing time.

Way too early to say this more chalky tournament will be the norm.

The ratings proved that most people didn’t actually watch the games when Cinderella’s were involved.

There was a lot more parity without NIL. NIL has made the big boys revelant and the little sisters of the poor irrelevant.

It is very very rare to have a double digit seed in the elite 8. It has happened 19 times. 6 of those were a 10 seed, the latest being Miami in 2022. 10 were 11 seeds, the latest being NC State in 2024, and 2021 UCLA prior to that. A pair of 12 seeds, 2021 Oregon State and 2002 Mizzou. And one 15 seed, 2022 Saint Peters.

Out of those, LSU in 1986, George Mason in 2006, 2011 VCU, 2018 Loyola Chicago, 2021 UCLA, and 2024 NC State reached the final 4.

so the mid-major full of bench players is now going to...beat a high-major team full of players that the bench guy couldn't beat out to start with?

I understand what you're saying, in that this whole thing could end up improving a smaller team's overall roster. That's true. But what OP was gettin at is that these smaller teams are now pretty much hopeless to advance past the first weekend in the NCAAT. Which I also believe to be true.

Tech develops a point guard that was 3rd in the nation in assists. Kid was in the transfer portal before the first round of the NCAAT started. Just sucks for these schools. Same with their defense in football. Top 10 in the country and ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL of them hit the portal.

Yes I do. Florida Gulf Coast is still one of my favorite cinderella teams, their run was very fun to watch.

Yes and no. They were fun for a few games but can't recall a true Cinderella winning it all. Not in the past 20 years at least.

this but more so the transfer portal. Any player at a mid major that has a good year gets plucked away the moment the season is over

To be honest, CBB has been major arse since they implemented 1-and-done.

Not really much of a loss considering the turnovers st the time he did.

I'd still to take Speedy smith over him
