re: Do you like the regional format or would you rather have 32 host sites and do a best of 3

The only thing I'd change is higher seeds are always the home team. They've earned it.

The inconsistent formatting of the super regionals makes no sense.
People who say this are retarded
Right now, it goes like this:
4 team tourney, double elimination (regionals)
2 team tourney, best of 3 (supers)
4 team tourney, double elimination (first set of games in Omaha)
2 team tourney, best of 3 (for the title)
Makes perfect sense to me. Competition gets harder and harder each time

I agree with a lot of what you said. I don’t mind the regional format as it adds value to having depth, but understand why some might not love it. My main problem is the CWS Finals. Once you make the Finals its own 3 game series, you have to allow a break in which each team is able to have their best players. I guess the only solution for that is to have a full week break and they don’t want to do that though.

It's an exact predecessor of what they do in Omaha. 4 team double elimination bracket followed by a best of 3 championship series. It means you have to be able to win lots of games in a short period of time which proves either pitching depth or being able to mash the ball, while still placing more emphasis on your top 2 starting pitchers with the best of 3 series. There isn't a more perfect format in sports that I'm aware of. My only complaint is that I wish teams had more time before the CWS championship series

I like the challenge that comes with the Regional format. Drives the intensity up knowing that your team's pitching will be challenged at some point, get to keep up with more teams in one place, and the increased potential for major upsets.
Solid post. The current setup also requires you to lean on your WHOLE team instead of just two stud pitchers

Supers is fine. Then you get to the CWS and it's back to the regional way. It's kind of ridiculous that the CWS isn't set up in a way that would allow Skenes to pitch last year. You crowned a champion without your ace throwing in the final 3 game series.
That to me is a little unnatural. But, I'm not sure how I would change it. And I honestly love these weekends.
I agree with this. You shouldn't have the 3 game championship series where one or both teams aren't even able to throw their ace. It's actually happened to LSU twice. The simple answer is just have a couple days off before the championship series starts.
That does make it tough on fans who want to attend though to have your team playing in Omaha for 2 weeks.

I don’t like college baseball all that much but it’s postseason tournament is near perfection and I watch as much as I can every year.
It’s an incredible format with Cinderella runs, huge upsets, dramatic finishes, and comebacks after setbacks every year.
The only thing I would even think about changing has already been mentioned in the thread a few times - more rest between bracket play of CWS and the finals.

Even when coming out of losers bracket in a regional?
I don't think a 2-1 #1 seed should be the home team in game 1 regional final vs a 2-0 2 or 3 seed.
Should be:
Game 1: 1 (Home) vs 4
Game 2: 2 (Home) vs 3
Game 3: Highest Seeded Winner Home
Game 4: Highest Seeded Loser Home
Game 5: Coin Flip
Game 6: Undefeated Winners Bracket Home
Game 7: if necessary: Coin Flip

Go back to the eight team double elimination tournament and call it a day.
CWS should go back to an eight team double elimination tournament as well.

That's the thing right there.
A 3-game series is there to allow for the best of both teams to figure it out.
The format now is such that LSU didn't even have their Howser Trophy-winning pitcher play in the entire series.
The regional part of the CWS should be split into two stadiums and played simultaneously Friday-Monday just like the Regional weekend. They could arrange the games so that you don't have two games going on at the same time.

I actually dislike it because when I watch a game I have no idea about any of it

I prefer the regional format. I would like the supers to consolidate to top 4 remaining seeds and follow the regional format. Those 4 winners make it to cws
I could get into this.

Cws would be a group play format where the 4 teams first do a round robin. Worst record is eliminated. Top record gets a bye. 2-3 play for 2nd (one game). Then the best of 3 finals.
Just make it another regional.

It makes perfect sense. The regions and the first weekend in Ohama are the same, the Supers and the Finals are the same
