I'm late to the party here. 954-rated at over 60 and growing the sport as a course designer and builder. I've been playing with John Kirkland (look him up) quite a bit lately up here in Pugetopolis and playing with James Proctor very soon on my home course.

Rough vs against a tree with a steep drop.
I wonder which is more common
Poor lies are about equally common. You have to take into account the vast majority DG courses are designed for DG and are designed to punish you when you are off the fairway which in general are far tighter than they are in ball golf.
Consider these tunnel shots which are a mainstay of DG and you can see how often you would have a "bad lie".
Also rough is different on a DG course, more likely to be bushes than tall grass. When there is tall grass rough (Flanacher in Zachery is a great example) it is often kept at or more than 18" tall. This doesn't pose much of an issue with a standstill shot but is brutal when you need the distance that requires a run-up. Here is an example of a famous course that uses sunflowers to give above the waist high rough. Note you can't see the tee box and the basket is down inside that woodline at the top of the picture.

He got caught not knowing what he was talking about. There is no changing his mind.

Muh bag...
It is amazing that DG triggers some people enough they come in and DV something as innocuous as a bag photo...
I pulled this thread up for some Baton Rouge related news. Silas Shultz a BR native and member of team Discmania had the hot first round at the Des Moines Challenge (a Pro Tour Elite Series Event) on Friday. He was on the lead card today along with Paul McBeth. I was going to wait until tomorrow after the CCDG coverage was uploaded to YT but they had lightning delays today so it may not be uploaded until Monday and I didn't want to forget to make note of it here.
Anyone that plays much DG in BR has almost certainly run into Silas and his older brother Thunder.

He was struggling with his putt today, hopefully he finds it tomorrow.
I just got back from Kentucky, played idlewild (udisc #9 rated in the world) and arrowhead (#52).
Idlewild was a beast, huge course with lots of elevation change, tough course to play in the heat and humidity. After playing it, you can see why its a stop on the pro tour.
Arrowhead was the complete opposite, almost all par 3’s in the woods. Mostly short technical holes, with narrow gaps. Best shorter course ive ever played.
