My team had a 5'8 offensive lineman who was maybe 170lbs and we made it to the state semi-finals with a few players of that build playing traditionally bigger positions. They all took creatine.

It probably had more to do with working out and growing as a teenager.

And in high school you dont need 300 pound mammouths at offensive line. Our starting tackle was 140 pounds and we made the playoffs in 5a

Creatine is not "terrible" for you.

You conveniently left out the rest of my sentence that put it into context.

Umm ok. There is your entire quote. Doesn't really change anything. Creatine still isn't terrible for you and doesn't do damage to your kidneys unless you take it like a retard.

Yes I took. Didn't consider it cheating. Pretty much all the starters on my high school team either took creatine or some kind of mass builder. All it ever really helped me with was getting over soreness and stiffness from lifting.

This is they key, a lot of high schoolers (including a dumbass teammate of mine), would take it everyday regardless like it's protein powder instead of in cycles like you're supposed to. Not only would it not work as well as it's supposed to, but you could end up with blood in your kidneys and stuff

Even if you take it everyday in smaller doses (like 5 grams or less) it isn't even bad for you. It is when people take like 10 or more grams a day for a long long time.

Problem is people see a little gain from doing something and they think they can just double up and they will continue to see gains at that rate.

No. But saw plenty of guys take it as a trainer. And no I don't consider it cheating. It's no different to me then someone taking legal supplements to bulk up.

Sure. But technically so is just about anything that bulks you up if it helps benefit your performance to be bigger. Performance enhancer doesn't have to have a negative connotation but it does because most equate it to steroids/illegal substances.

They have differing opinions.

Some say the plasma eats the creatine and causes no renal issues.

There are others that say the renal damage including stones are enhanced by creatine.

You just have to choose your study and believe what you want.

There's a reason a lot of high schools banned Creatine. It's because most 15-18 year old kids don't take it responsibly. And it is more harmful then a lot of other bulking agents if not used properly.

If I had a kid that age I wouldn't want him taking Creatine. I'd prefer he take something else (like an actin and myosin bulking agent) to bulk up without the potential side effects.

Certainly it could be bad for a preexisting condition and worsen already existing kidney damage. Anything could potentially be bad for a preexisting condition though.

Which I did and a lot of HS's did. That makes it terrible for you in that situation which I clearly stated was my situation.

You're supposed to drink A LOT of fluids while taking it and cycle off of it. 90% of the HS kids I knew didn't do either. They took it everyday for sometimes over a year and wouldn't up their fluid intake. That can cause nausea, mild liver damage, and kidney pain from the dehydration.

Absolutely you need to drink lots of fluids while taking it. Some people are prone to dehydration more so than others, so some people cramp and others never feel a thing. I still use creatine and arginine as supplements now. Creatine in small doses (5 grams or less) doesn't actually need to be cycled on and off.

No I didn't.

Yes I'd consider it a performance enhancer.

I don't know if its cheating. If its against the rules, then yes its cheating. If its not, then no it isn't cheating.

Lots of things enhance performance but aren't cheating. fricking Gatorade enhances performance

I am the kind of person that thinks everything unnatural should be cycled off...unless we're talking about something like necessary heart medication.

Very reasonable thought and there are plenty of people that share the same thought process. Creatine is just one of those things that gets a bad rep because people don't do research on it.

I heard someone in the gym the other day say that drinking a protein shake or 2 a day is actually bad for you and could cause kidney damage.

No, didn't take

No, not cheating

It could be considered a performance enhancer in the loosest definition of the term in the same way that weight training, protein shakes, or a good diet are considered cheating. I saw the guys using steroids and GH - to compare them to the guys drinking skim milk, egg whites, and creatine seems like a really poor comparison to me.
