Saban used to preach he hated starting freshman qbs because it ruined them as they weren't ready. We saw it happen to Jarrett Lee.

Do you think doing that to Underwood hurt? Can you do that with freshman qbs today when you have paid a lot of money for them?

They didn’t pay eight figures for a redshirt year

I know. That is the conundrum isn't it. They pay a ton of money but then get rushed out there and voila.

At Gridiron Club, Saban said that is why he would not play Flynn and Russell as freshmen. Said he had a couple of qbs at Michigan State. Started them as frosh, they weren't ready, and it completely ruined their development. Said he would not make that mistake again.

JL had a solid sr yr until the Bama game. 7-0 I think and looked solid passing.

No because it calls into question your skills as a talent evaluator. You kind of have to start that big-NIL freshmen because it would be even worse if you didn’t start him

Guys mature, and it gives them an advantage over less maturing players. Many times, that advantage disappears as other catch up, like in big time collegiate sports.
I dont know him personally, but his skill hasn't advanced at the same pace as thise around him.

Its bye bye time. He wont have the mental build to stay and work.

Very rarely are quarterbacks ready as a true freshman. That just isn't the position where they can come in and make an immediate impact. Saban was right.

Why does playing and learning, somehow become a negative? Instead if sitting with no reps or experience...somehow makes you "ready"

His lack of actual talent has hurt his development.

Probably, but there's too much money being invested in these kids so they need to play asap. We'll see if some teams start being more cautious with throwing big money at high schoolers

NO. The kid had a flaw that was able to go uncorrected in high school against weaker talent.

JLee is leaning on his back foot probably right now . He couldnt get his arm strength to fix his physical and MENTAL retardation, of his throwing mechanics and decisions. Pros tried as well, and they couldnt work thru it totally.

That being said, he was a better option than Jefferson

I'm just not sure he was ever that good.

I've watched these QB highlight videos, and on some, the qb is hitting guys 20 yards open, or beating up on little sister of the poor. I want to see hard throws, drop dimes, put it right there. Many don't have to read more than 2 options, or cannot, but their team is so much better that some one is open every play.

Would be nice to let them sit and learn for a season, but $ talks, as does Coaches having to win to save their asses.
