any chance this is just like a "hey, congrats on being in the #1 position for the lottery" or something like that?

he probably does not realize that. he thought it was done.

The widespread accusations have been there since the first lottery with the Knicks getting Ewing. And the whole reason the lottery exists is to stop tanking which obviously hasn't worked.

Basically the NBA is making it clear they don't mind the suspicion one bit

Isn't it obvious Philly needs the 1st pick? Makes sense to me.

we only have to look back to last year. the knicks had the second best odds and the lakers had the fifth best. KAT is/was the better prospect than either ingram or simmons. thats the perfect opportunity for the league to rig the lottery to get its flagship franchise or the major franchise from the country's most important city the pick. instead, it goes to minnesota. for all the times people want to point to the cavs getting the pick to get lebron or the then hornets getting the pick for AD after the league ownership fiasco or the cavs getting the pick after lebron leaving, you can point to other instances that would have served the league just as well but didnt happen

Rigging the draft makes perfect sense...until you start to think about it.

Viewers will watch regardless unless it is blatant rigging then you might get negative lashing out. It's hard to prove too unless somebody involved in the process says there's some shady shite in it. I like the suspense of the lot tort. I liked the old system though when teams could jump from 12 to 7. I like the randomness.

Have any of you defenders thought that the lottery can only be rigged some years when it benefits the NBA? That kind of thing will kill your explanations of years where 'it couldn't be rigged', don't you think?

Also, I heard the best way to solve it the other day- Why not award it by who is mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs first and go in that order. At least the teams that are already eliminated can try and win the remaining games. Might make for an interesting season.

If it is rigged, which it may be. Why would he, of all people, know tonight's selection?

So it only benefits the NBA sometimes? Almost sounds random, like it's not even rigged.

So, just not have a lottery? This is pretty much the way it used to be. The worst teams get mathematically eliminated first

Why?

The lottery exists, in theory, to stop teams from tanking to get better picks.

First off, Im not sure what you are getting at but the lottery isnt rigged. Too many competing interests to allow that sort of collusion.

Wouldn't that suggestion not really change much though? It would just encourage tanking much sooner into a season. Like, instead of the Suns trying to make it work for a bit, you hit a few injuries and then its all aboard the tank 20 games into the season. While tanking teams from the get go would just be business as usual, just not as motivated to lose post all star break. Then there would be a period of tank sprint where teams try to secure their position in the tank before letting off the gas.
