4th best odds..13.7%?.. or 11.9%. Idk
Gotcha.

So in other words, not exactly some super rare, out of this world winning the Powerball type occurrence.

it is impossible for 20 bouncing balls to give proper odds needed and %'s of all those teams odds. How the fricking do you make a bouncing ball .8% chance?

its makes as much sense as the NBA wanting to rig the draft to keep certain teams viable

Of course not. Timing was what made it odd.

What were the odds of NOP winning the lottery that season?

What were the odds of the NOP winning the lottery WHEN THE NBA OWNED the franchise? I have heard from many sources that the lottery was a part of the deal to sell to Benson. What are the odds of everything happening like that just like NY getting the Ewing pick?

Fishy, I say.

just for clarification

quote:

To determine the winner, fourteen ping pong balls numbered 1–14 are placed in a standard lottery machine and four balls are randomly selected from the lot. Just as in most traditional lotteries, the order in which the numbers are drawn is not important. That is, 1-2-3-4 is considered to be the same as 4-3-2-1. There are a total of 1,001 combinations (or 14! / (10! x 4!)). Of these, 1 outcome is disregarded and 1,000 outcomes are distributed among the 14 non-playoff NBA teams. The combination 11-12-13-14 (in any order that those numbers are drawn) is not assigned and it is ignored if drawn; this has never occurred in practice.

In the event a lottery pick is traded to another team, the record of the original team (whose pick it was before the trade) still determines eligibility for the lottery, and assignment of chances.

Since 2005, with 30 NBA teams, 16 qualify for the playoffs and the remaining 14 teams are entered in the draft lottery. These 14 teams are ranked in reverse order of their regular season record and are assigned the following number of chances

250 combinations, 25.0% chance of receiving the #1 pick
199 combinations, 19.9% chance
156 combinations, 15.6% chance
119 combinations, 11.9% chance
88 combinations, 8.8% chance
63 combinations, 6.3% chance
43 combinations, 4.3% chance
28 combinations, 2.8% chance
17 combinations, 1.7% chance
11 combinations, 1.1% chance
8 combinations, 0.8% chance
7 combinations, 0.7% chance
6 combinations, 0.6% chance
5 combinations, 0.5% chance

I would love to see the fallout resulting from the 76ers ending up with 1,2 and 4 overall in this draft class after tanking for so long.

It had to do with StubHub...not the Draft Lottery. Google it...like Mutombo should have.

About 13%, nothing too crazy or wild to hit on.

There is an observer for every team in the room where the combinations are drawn. Those people don't have electronics in the room and are basically hostage there until the results are announced.

Believing in the integrity of the NBA lottery is like believing in Santa Claus

Of course the league would reward the Sixers for axing Hinkie

and therein lies the self fulfilling prophecy of it all. the sixers win the pick? the NBA is rewarding them for hinkie. the lakers win the pick? the NBA wants the lakers to be good again. the celtics win the pick? the NBA wants the celtics to get over the hump. the pelicans win the pick? the NBA wants the kid who went to LSU to go to NO to give that franchise a shot in the arm

The Sixers Lakers and Celtics are really the only three that make sense from a business standpoint, so I wouldn't call it self fulfilling

it kinda is. those are your three most likely teams to win the lottery. there is a 60.5% chance one of those three is going to win the pick. theres a decent chance its going to happen and when it does happen, its not because its rigged. its because they collectively had favorably better odds than the rest of the league

Right, that will be the case this year. It hasn't always been in the past though

If any other team wins it it's because they trigged it just to make you think it's not rigged. They have to do that every now and then so people don't get wise
