we only have to look back to last year. the knicks had the second best odds and the lakers had the fifth best. KAT is/was the better prospect than either ingram or simmons. thats the perfect opportunity for the league to rig the lottery to get its flagship franchise or the major franchise from the country's most important city the pick. instead, it goes to minnesota. for all the times people want to point to the cavs getting the pick to get lebron or the then hornets getting the pick for AD after the league ownership fiasco or the cavs getting the pick after lebron leaving, you can point to other instances that would have served the league just as well but didnt happen

and again the self fulfilling prophecy. it either happens and it proves its worth, or it doesnt because the NBA doesnt want to let the cat out of the bag

Christ I hope not. Philly is the one team in the NBA I hate seeing real talent go to. They don't deserve it. They don't even try to win

In all seriousness: the only times I started to really question it were the Pelicans and the Cavs third go round. Before that I thought it was BS. The Pels winning when they were owned by the league and the league had a vested interest in making them attractive for sale was suspicious, but they had the fourth best odds, so okay.

The Cavs winning it for the third time in four years with the rumors swirling that Lebron could consider a return and 1.7% odds made me more suspicious.

If they would just show it publicly it would stop most of the speculation outside of the crazies, plus I think it would be great TV

Also in a theoretical rigging scenario, they don't have to do it every year

I'll never get over this, it was talked about all week here in Charlotte prior to the lottery that NO was getting the #1 pick and it happened.

No coincidence there.

Personally I don't think it's ever been rigged but now they may have to if Phila wins it just so people don't think it was. Good job conspiracy theorists

i dont think it would work well on TV as constructed. people dont want to see someone draw 4 numbers and then find said combo of numbers by flipping through a chart. they would need to revamp their reward system

and they are damned if they do, damned if they dont then. they either are rigging the lottery for a franchise, or they are rigging the lottery to keep people from questioning them about rigging the lottery. the league cant win in that situation

agreed. you wouldn't be able to go from 14 down to 1 if the drawing process was aired.

also, there could be a ton of re-drawing if a team's combinations kept occurring over and over.

Well they would win by rigging the lottery in the best instances to help the overall business of the league

I doubt they give a shite about the speculation over it's integrity, it gets people talking about it on social media and excited about it. I do think they could construct it to be a better TV event though and am surprised they haven't.

Oh yeah the suspicions of it all being rigged make it more intriguing. It's the same thing with how the playoffs unfold, people always go back and say this happened because the nba wanted it to. Which you can always do

If people REALLY believed it why would they watch. Most people grow out of pro wrestling around middle school

Nobody would be shocked to learn it has been rigged. Everyone knows it is. It's like the JFK assassination. We all know it, but can't prove it.

well yea, i was more talking about perception wise

they do enough though to were they arent just drawing the numbers in a backroom with no oversight. teams send representatives to watch the actual draw of the balls and that right there is what just destroys any notion to me of the lottery being rigged. why would the teams just sit there and watch the lottery be rigged to their detriment?

i do agree that the league probably likes the fact that people like to talk about it being rigged

It could also, potentially, take 7 and a half hours to complete.

It takes about a minute to draw a full combination. If they get really lucky(or unlucky), they could draw all of philly's combos and all of the Lakers' combos before drawing anyone else's. That would take 7 hours and 29 minutes.

Now I wish it were televised and this exact, extremely unlikely situation would happen.

REC is going to make it be the Bulls, Wizards, Jazz just to take away from the CRob/Hootie situation. You'll see, you'll all see.

Yeah I don't steadfastly believe it's rigged, but If you told me the NBA pulled some funny business with the number of balls for certain teams in certain years with the hopes of a certain outcome it wouldn't be surprising to me.

The whole process is pretty hilarious and bizarre honestly. There was an exchange student at my HS from Eastern Europe who got into the NBA when he came over and he was fascinated by how intense the process was just for determining the draft order every year

The only time I thought it was rigged was when NO got it. Figured it was a selling point in the deal and keeping the team in NO. But even then, they did have good odds.

Also didn't Chicago go from 12 to 1 to get Rose?
