LOL. They just replayed it twice on the broadcast! Haha I guess they didn’t notice it

re: Anybody Own A Surface Pro

Just got it and love it. I’ve got a desktop with dual monitors at work so I use it for travel and work from home and it’s perfect for that.

If you’re using it as your main work computer, I’d look elsewhere. Not because it’s not fast or anything but because of it’s strengths with on the go use. The add ons are slightly frustrating (keyboard, pen, and mouse) but all worth it IMO.

I’d make sure you get the I7 processor. From what I researched and was told, it’s well worth the extra cost. I have the exact specs you listed and with the I7 processor. It has a spot on the back where you can buy a memory card and add additional storage. The cards are pretty cheap compared to the jump to 500+GB

Let me know if you have any specific questions. I’m an average joe on knowledge of tech but can explain further on the ins and outs of day to day usage. I’d highly recommend getting it

Also, I did start a thread the other day about returning it haha but only because of the intel chip hack/breach (whatever it was). But as I mentioned in the thread, I love it and will not be returning it
Chase Sapphire Reserve

This article gives a high level recap of the card. Also, pretty sure you can find some old money talk threads on this card as well.
There’s a Priority Pass lounge. Probably cheaper than some other options out there.

Do you have a Chase Reserve card? It’s one of the perks with it. They allow up to 4 hours with the priority pass card. Food and drink provided along with WiFi, shower, tvs etc (this is according to the priority pass app).

Maybe see if one of your friends has a priority pass card. I’ve never had them ask for my ID. I’ve just shown them the card and they swipe it to make sure it’s valid and that’s it.

If no to all of the above, you can still buy access to the lounge but I’m not sure how much that would be. Probably best to call in advance. Good luck
Thanks, Humblepie. I'm back to keeping it
Thanks for the help. Dang, I kinda don't want to roll the dice and may just return it and see what the news outlets etc. end up saying and go from there.
Intel says a push update will fix the issue

quote:

Intel was rocked this week after Google engineers discovered two major security flaws in the way the company's chips operate. One of the flaws were said to be unfixable by a simple software update. However, Intel's stock is up 0.63% to $44.71 on Friday after the company said it has found a fix to the previously unfixable problem.

Good news

quote:

But Intel said that it had found a fix for 90% of its processors made in the last five years and that the fix will be ready by the end of next week. If Intel is right, it will have closed a major security flaw in its processors.

I'm assuming I'd fall in that 90% but still slightly concerning

quote:

Intel also said it doesn't expect a major performance hit to its processors when it launches the fix, which was a concern of Google's. Pundits have said that computer performance could take as much as a 30% hit because of the way the security patch would have to change how processors function.

This is the part that cocnerns me..... I don't want any hit to the speed on a brand new laptop. But if it's truly minor, I doubt I'd notice.
What's your opinion? Do you think I should return it?

I already have a halfway decent functioning laptop I had before the Surface Pro purchase and don't really need one desperately right now. I could easily wait +-9 months. 95% of my work is done at my desktop at work.
I'm admitting to not knowing all the X and O's here but return it in case it was something internal that a push update wouldn't resolve, which it sounds like a new Windows update will fix this.

I've still got time left on the 90 day trial period, so I don't see why I wouldn't if this was something that would be fixed internally in a newer model that couldn't be fixed with a push update.
quote:

(the above should only be done temporarily) because they are working on major patch by the middle of the month it may cause a drop as much as 20-30% performance.

But like you said, this will only be temporary? Just wanting to make absolute certain I'm understanding you correctly.

Thanks everyone for the responses so far. It sounds like it wouldn't really benefit me to return the device as updates are being rolled out and won't cause a slow down in the long run.
I bought the new Microsoft Surface Pro about 15 days ago and love it. However, with this news of nearly all laptops prone to a security breach due to a flaw in the intel chips (I think), should I return it and wait till the next wave of Microsoft Surface's that fix this issue?

I keep seeing concerns about the updates companies are going to roll out could affect the speed of computers/tablets/etc up to 30% and slow them down.....

I can easily wait another 6 months or so for a new laptop, considering how much it cost me..... I have 90 days from the date of purchase to return it.

Again, I love the Microsoft Surface Pro, but I do have the luxury of returning it and letting all of the computer companies figure out how bad this security mix up really is and fixing it internally in the next generation of products.

Also, I probably butchered the exact language and problem of what's truly happening with the security issue, but nonetheless, I know it's something affecting nearly all current computers.

TLDR; Should I return my Microsoft Surface Pro until this security/intel chip threat is resolved? Thanks for everyone's help.

ETA: It's a Microsoft Surface Pro not just the Surface laptop but I doubt that matters

I think Personal Capital is pretty great. It tracks just about everything for you expense wise. It’s free as well

Damn. There already out of stock
Dang. I guess it's been that long since I bought an MP3 player. I used to have both the nano and shuffle but I've used my IPhone for a while now.
Do you have a smart phone? That should work but if not:

Apple nano or shuffles should fill the need and last a while and good for working out. I've really only had Apples for MP3 devices over the years and they haven't failed me yet.

However, I'm sure there are other cheaper alternatives that are durable. Hopefully some other posters will know.

I'm thinking the Lenovo. Support feature isn't very high on my list

I am still toying with the idea of the surface pro but I just think I'm trying to buy something because it's cool/high tech but I won't really utilize the features
Looking for the best windows based business laptop.

I've done extensive research and was hoping to get a clear verdict from the tech board. I've looked at past threads/online, so I apologize for another which Laptop thread but I don't wanna screw this up.

Price: N/A. Works paying for it (only this one time)
Uses: typical finance/business, excel, etc
Important: speed, battery, screen, keyboard, windows based, portability

I've narrowed it down but still very open to whatever else. In no order:

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
Dell Precision 15-5510
Microsoft Surface Pro
Microsoft Surface Laptop
HP specter x360 15

It doesn't have to be any of these and I'm leaning away from a 2 and 1 since I don't want to compromise speed and I'm not really sure how much I'd use the tablet features.

Finally, I can wait up to 3 months or so (maybe more) if a newer model is coming out that's worth it. I'm looking to keep this Laptop for at least 6+ years as I did my old Mac, if possible.

Thanks in advance for all of your help. It's very much appreciated

As long as the headphones don't cost a crazy amount I'm good with it.

Is the release date still slated for October? Really needing/wanting a new phone now.....
I'm not much older than you and I had a spreadsheet of every job I applied to, the date I applied, heard back, and some other misc things.

I think I ended up applying to 40+ plus jobs and only heard back from 7 maybe in the form of let's schedule a time or no thanks. All the other 33 ghosted me. Quite possibly because I wasn't a strong candidate for their position but I like to think it's just the nature of the beast haha.

Also, the places I applied to were anywhere from a 10 person company to 10,000. The smaller the company, the more it seemed I got a response back which is logical.

Good luck and keep plugging away and make sure whatever job you get, you still have enough time to post travel board deals haha
I'm having this same issue. Was about to book a trip to Austin but the return is like $200. Hope they fix it soon.

Thanks for all the info and heads up as always, Cuse
It looks like they've corrected it or the link doesn't bring you directly to it on mobile. When I click it, it just brings me to the normal Priceline site
