All y’all had to do was look 60 miles to the east to see what a danger a “one of us” hire can be.

It'll be a lot harder for UL to recover from their "talks like us" moment than LSU. This was the kind of hire that sets you back to the Bustle days. Kills student enthusiasm, kills donations, kills attendance, kills budgets. Given the economic climate and the direction of the team, we can probably wave goodbye to the desperately needed stadium renovation.

Unfortunately for schools like UL, you walk a very fine line between being a respectable consistent bowl team and an irrelevant bottom feeder. It can all go wrong in a hurry if mistakes are made.

Desormeaux never showed he can be a head coach in FBS. At all.

Coaching at Ascension Episcopal School few years back didn’t set him up for success? Are you also forgetting his one season as Co OC?

And I'm pretty sure Napier called the plays on gameday.

Cajun fans can just go be full time gator fans now that their team is trash.

For the two years Napier is employed

Damn his salary is $775000 a year. Thought you could have gotten his dude for $250000 tops.

I never understood the hire at all. They could have landed a much better coach after what Napier did.

It still baffles me that they made that hire. Frickin Louisiana ADs can't get our of their own way. McNeese had the lazy hire back in 2015 with Lance Guidry that basically destroyed the program. LSU went with Ed O--we all know where that situation is now. And now ULL.

Baffling hires all around.

Dw, y’all might get Napier back sooner than expected.

Yep. They were definitely in a position to attract someone to that spot.

I mean they got Napier in the first place. I laugh at LSU fans falling for his O bullshite, but hat was a huge get for ULL. Completely gutted ASU's plan with Edwards (where Napier was going to be the real HC in terms of football).

I don't see why (other than money) ULL couldn't be attractive to another up and coming OC

It was more emotional than lazy. I was actually a McNeese booster and went to all the QB club meetings the year prior. The blue hairs were legitimately hurt that Viator left. Guidry had already been set up as the HCIW and he even ran a few of the QB club meetings.

Guidry would never talk to me so I'm about 25% sure he knew who I was and remembered my avatar making fun of him

I had forgotten about that. That makes it even worse. The fact that they always planned to give the job to him basically because he was "one of us" was so stupid. We got one good year out of him, and he left us with a heap of trouble to deal with.

I half expect that McNeese will never see teams like the late 90s and early 2000s ever again. Hell, we'll be lucky to get back to what Viator had.

I mess with ULL fans alot, but I genuinely hope the Desormeaux hire doesn't set them back into mediocrity like some of our recent hires have done to us.

Guidry's D has issues in Viator's final year but it was good the year prior. I think he's a "hustle more than scheme" guy, which was bad for a HC move. He was also a big recruiter (Viator sucked at recruiting). Basically Guidry was MSU's Orgeron
