In the 1980's during a roundtable discussion with Peter Jennings after the Jimmy Greek comments...
The track coach at Stanford said he was going to find a white Carl Lewis - to show that it's all work ethic and not what you are born with.
It never happened.
But this isn't news to anyone...just like Nuke Laloosh and Nolan Ryan, either you are born with the arm of God or not. Practice doesn't make your fastball faster. You can slightly increase your sprinting speed but either you are WC fast or like every other mortal - not fast.
Integration happened. Reality happened.

Deion was shocked because white people don't run 4.35 40's. This kid maybe the fastest white guy ever at the NFL combine. The faux outrage is nauseating.

Who cares. Genetic freaks come in all shapes and colors. Of the four tallest players in NBA history, only one was a kang. The other three were a kraut, a gypsy, and a chinaman.

Jimmy the Greek was fired because he said black American athletes were "bred" as slaves.
He should have just said American athletes with Western African heritage are really fast and this has been proven at every Olympics and it's in their genes.
If he just said that he would have been mostly fine. (Although people back then also didn't like to admit genetic differences of any sort when it was so obvious in dunking competitions or the long-jump or the 100M.)
But the Greek was so stupid to bring up slavery...and treating humans like chattel...200 years of some stupid breeding idea isn't going to produce a superior athlete. It was already there from West Africa. Thousands of years of evolution...not 200 years of plantation life.
He should have just said - when proded and provoked by the news guy..."why are black athletes so much better than white athletes?"
He should have just said...genes, dummy. But everyone was afraid to say that back then...because if you implied genes, the liberals assumed you were saying...nobody worked for it. People were crazy, still are. There's obvious differences in different athletic abilities.
So yes, Deion should be surprised that a white guy runs a 4.35 40 - that's crazy for a white athlete. White guys - golf, tennis, swimming, hockey, baseball...being the fastest man on the planet - not happening.

I agree with you. He should have just genetics, but he went off the deep end.

Carolina Panthers S and ST gunner Colin Jones ran a 4.31 at TCU's Pro Day in 2011.
Some had him timed under 4.30s.

not many people at all run a 4.35 40. at the elite end of things, blacks make up the majority of world class sprinters, etc.
that said, most people of any race aren't very athletic. i was in the top 10 in the 100m in louisiana my junior year. actually two white guys in the top 10. i grew up around a ton of black people in south louisiana and compared to people with real athletic ability, most blacks aren't very athletic at all. slow, weak, etc. just normal people. maybe more "athletic" than the average white guy, but still not athletic in any real sense.
the thing to me that sticks out with black athletes is the way they move. not necessarily straight line speed. hell, brian urlacher had a better 40 time at the combine than reggie bush.

That's incorrect. I forget all the factors, but there are some physical differences between whites and blacks that affect buoyancy. I think the way fat deposits on the body and/or muscle leanness are some of them. Perhaps torso length versus leg length also plays a part, I forget, which (leg length in proportion to total body length) also plays into the reason why blacks are generally faster than whites in running.
