Deficit of more than $5 million discovered in audit of Grambling Athletics Dept

The audit was performed to be sure the athletics department was complying with NCAA rules, and to help the school evaluate its internal controls.

Knowing how much your coaches make and how many student athletes you service should be common knowledge.
So they thought they were paying 100K more in salaries than they actually did. But didn't included 100K in severance packages.
I don't know how many student athletes are at Grambling, but how do you miss 62 of them.

A friend used to be some sort of state auditor and she was on a team that had to audit BRCC's books after the school had been open for about a decade. She said it was worse than untangling a large ball of yarn. To the shock of nobody, that school started with a bunch of DEI types in prominent positions that had no clue what they were doing.
She said it wasn't necessarily corruption, but more incompetence that made it a clusterfrick. I imagine every HBCU school has the same issue

LSU athletics is projected to run a $25M deficit in 2026. After posting deficits the previous two years.

Where are you getting these numbers. The 2025 public numbers showed a near 4 million dollar surplus.

WBRZ, Louisiana Illuminator, Legislative Audit, the sources are there. 22, 23, 24 and projected 26 were all deficits. 25 turned almost a million in profit.
How you run a deficit with $220M budget is beyond me. What is even more baffling is the stones cast at other instate programs when they run a deficit with 1/5 of the resources.

Running a deficit is something completely different from what’s described in the above excerpts. Grambling sounds like they can’t do accounting or even read paperwork to know what they’re on the hook for.

No defending Grambling, or UL under T-Joe Savoie either.
My point is simply, like all government entities, universities often run deficits.

The other in-state programs aren’t representing Louisiana on a national stage so why run a deficit?
