It does beg the question as to why both linemen went up to the ref if only 1 was reporting? Seems if just the 1 dude goes, that takes away that chance of confusion like we saw here.

I think #58 and #68 went to him to clarify which was eligible and which wasn’t.

#70 runs out and talks to his teammates but not the official. Official says #70 reported.

it's weird how the ref got 70 out of that exchange considering he was last guy to the party.

Probably got confused and went with the last one he saw.

The head official clearly got confused because #70 had reported as eligible a few times earlier in the game. He fricked up and assumed he was reporting again rather than listening to #68 who was the one actually reporting.

Yea it's back to being confusing.

The ref definitely never spoke to or acknowledged #70, he turned his head before 70 got there.

Such a shitty way to end it.

Teams will all shore up this process to ensure only the reporting lineman goes anywhere near the ref. Sounds like they only say "report" but they should start saying their number too and the ref should repeat it as well to the player going forward.

The ref reports to the Dallas defense that 70 is eligible and not 68 which is the reason for that incredibly easy two-point conversion for the lions.

Yeah wonder if the league will just bury it under the Sunday games or we'll actually get them to fess up to their frick up.

But cambell said that after the flag was thrown he was told that two players reported and that the flag was thrown because that’s not allowed . Which is wrong

Ref said 70 was reporting all game. Ref probably assumed it was the same guy without really checking. Went and told Dallas that 70 was eligible. Embarrassing. Hope the NFL acknowledges they got it wrong but that won’t make it any better for the Lions

I think this is correct. Ref assumed and was wrong. That’s a really bad look.

No only did he frick up which player reported as eligible, he then went and told the defense that the wrong player was eligible.

They sure almost fricked up if they were rigging for Dallas then because if Goff throws an accurate pass Dallas loses

Referees should have to address the media like the players do.

And explain his comments in the report after he is shown the video footage.

The ref definitely fricked up but why did Detroit send 3 linemen up to the ref?

I know that'll get lost as we all want to hate on the ref but I think it's a valid question.

Lions were still in play for the overall 1 seed. Very costly blunder.
