Notre Dame and Teo's statement are pathetic. Totally contradicts everything the father has said about the "cyber-girlfriend".

indeed, no way he continues on w this fraud if he was actually in on it...is there?
since he informed ND he knew it was a fraud in Dec. he should have gone public before the deadspin story

any crisis management professional would have told him this. you get out ahead of the story don't let them media dictate the story to the public you have to do that ahead of the embarrassment.

makes me think he was in on it and had deluded himself that it wasn't going to blow up in his face

Charity funds were started, and donations poured into foundations dedicated to leukemia research. More than $3,000 has been pledged in one IndieGogo campaign raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

"This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her. "To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone's sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating. "It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother's death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life. "I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been. "In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was. "Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I'm looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL Draft.

I like how he doesn't explain about actually meeting her

I feel badly for the guy. He's obviously mentally handicapped. Already showing signs of brain damage. He should quit football

Isn't that tax fraud?

Looks like Manti Te'O will be our next Secretary of the Treasury.

I think this helps Tyrann Mathieu's stock. Out of former Heisman finalists with checkered pasts, he doesn't look like the worst candidate anymore.

eh, he's dumb, but there's no doubt he's good at football. I wouldn't mind risking a 3rd round pick for him to go to the Saints

Surely he wouldn't have known how much that story would blow up.

So why make it up?

I just told you. It gained a ton of publicity for him which is why he made it up and he for some reason he has a mental block that prevented him from seeing the consequences of his actions if he was to be caught.

But she is commenting all over twitter about his friends.

I think Teo knew about this a long while ago, it started getting out of control, his friends were being contacted, etc. and he felt he had to keep the lie up.

Even where he had to go along with her death.

He may have gotten duped, but he had to know a long while ago.
