There's posts on Notre Dame boards claiming this was a big setup by Kiffin because Marques Tuiasosopo played for him in Oakland

My theory was Jim Delany wanted to take down Swarbrick and weaken ND to the point they have to join the conference.

To me, it's the media's acceptance of those lies. People lie, and people cover-up lies. But "professional" journalists should be held to a higher standard. How could they - and by they, I mean ESPN, CBS, New York Times, LA Times, Sports Illustrated, South Bend Tribune, etc. - not verify this story? None of them! Not a single one verified the story! Unbelievable.
