Couldn't have said it better myself. Thought multiple times today how much I wished we had a Sunday afternoon game to watch.
Was just doing my daily check in on the astros subreddit and saw someone post this...
Henderson Alvarez could return in May
Thoughts? Would obviously be a long shot but he's one of those guys that has shown signs of dominance before and has just always been hurt. If it wasnt too expensive I would be all about taking that chance, although I'm sure that's what every front office is thinking

Trade three of those for Jose Quintana and let's win a championship in 2017.

Cardinal's are forced to give us their top 2 '17 picks + 2 mill. The picks are #56 and #75. This would have been wonderful if they had a first round pick.

Still, I didn't really expect much so I'll take it

@Buster_ESPN
Reaction to MLB's punishment of the Cardinals from around the sport is immediate: Some evaluators find penalty to be shockingly light.

The Cardinals have been hit with the following penalties from commissioner Rob Manfred:
A $2 million payment to the Astros, which must be paid within 30 days.
The Cardinals' two highest picks in the 2017 draft are being awarded to the Astros.
Correa has been placed on the permanently ineligible list. He's banned from baseball.

The extra picks were worth around $1.85M in bonus pool money in last years draft, so we could be looking at maybe $2M in extra bonus money than expected this year. Could be YUGE if a top prospect falls in the draft due to signability concerns.

Pick 56 is worth: $1,122,400
Pick 75 is worth: $730,800
Basically, Astros receive a 2nd round and 2nd round supplemental spot.
Truthfully, this is a much worse scenario for the Cardinals than what I expected. And much better for the Astros -- I did not expect them to receive anything other than monetary payments from the Cards.
That said -- I think losing a 2nd and supplemental spot is bullshite. They should've made it where the Astros get to choose between two options -- the one handed down by MLB, or option B -- you can pick any one player drafted from the Cardinals 2016 draft plus the option of the first Cardinals pick of 2017 or 2018 drafts.
I know those aren't "doable" actions -- but that's what I think was merited. Something that says, "we will not stand for another team losing control of it's employees in this fashion."

Could this ruling possibly, in any way, revive Quintana trade talks?

I can't see it having a huge push to make the deal. I sure hope I am wrong.

They probably knew this was coming and gave up their first round pick.
