Crane said this was his plan from the beginning at his initial press conference. Dumb strategy for sure unless the future GM is already with the organization and could be part of the manager search

Everyone should embrace Banister, who would light a fire under the asses of Badastros.

"You guys are called a bunch of cheaters who aren't really championship players. What the frick do you intend to do about it?"

According to MLB sources former Toronto manager John Gibbons will interview with the #Astros tomorrow in Houston as part of the club's search for a replacement for AJ Hinch.

Was there any doubt that Crane was going to go after a hardliner after Hinch?

Hinch: too scared to confront players about using the video equipment

Gibbons: gets in fist fights with players in the tunnel after they talk back

It was the only way

Nah, just avoided arbitration.

I get that. I do.

But a long term deal with Springer would have injected some much needed goodwill from the fans towards the organization. A first step towards some normalcy. This just, imo, confirms Springer will be testing the market when the time comes next year. I dont think the 1 year deal was just the Astros preference, it was probably his too. And that kind of sucks.

Pending arbitration be damned, a 5 year $115-$130 deal would have been a nice piece of news.

They’re allowed to keep negotiating a long term deal after agreeing to a one year deal for this year. It doesn’t really confirm anything. Regardless its hard to see them doing any long term deals right now without a GM

How’d that negotiation go?

George: I want $22.5 million.

Luhnow: Nah. $17:5.

2 days later... Luhnow fired.

George: I want $22.5 mil.

Some Astros flunky: look, Jeff is gone. You cheated. Let’s just agree on $21 million plus some incentives. You look good. We avoid issues.

George: yeah, ok. I’m a FA next season anyway. I’m gone.

Astros flunky: mumble mumble.. gone... mumble... in July. Mumble.
